CC : Lancashire v Durham

Round Six of the County Championship sees us off to (hopefully) sunny Blackpool for our clash against Lancashire. Given that the most entertaining game of our season so far was undoubtedly the outground of Kidderminster let's hope for the same at Stanley Park. Certainly anything like Edgbaston, Southampton or indeed The Riverside v Essex and I imagine the crowd will be heading off to The Pleasure Beach and the Golden Mile instead for candy floss and toffee apples.

Our hosts have had something of an indifferent start to the season and are currently bottom of the table on 31 points while we lie 5th on 61. I'm loath to point out that only captain Keaton Jennings (172 v Hants.) and wicketkeeper Matthew Hurst (104 v Essex) have got to three figures while their leading wicket taker is Nathan 'Gary' Lyon with 12. He was originally going to be with Lancs for the full season but Cricket Australia deemed that he should play seven of nine red ball matches and seeing as how he missed the last game against Notts he should be available to continue his battle with our very own....Ben Stokes for it is he.

As mentioned previously Cambo let slip that Stokes should be playing in this fixture so if he does play will it be purely as a batsman in which case I imagine Clarky would step down (or Borthwick!) but if he is allowed to bowl then it would probably be Pottsy's turn to be rested and also would Coggs come back into the team after sitting out the Hampshire snore draw as he's arguably been our best pace bowler this season.

Should be a decent away following and our very own @GordonMuchallNo1Fan will be our on the spot reporter at the ground.:D Weather could be a bit showery on Friday but the next three days look set fair (so far) so let's hope that we continue our unbeaten run with a second victory of the season. Safe journey to those going to Blackpool and as ever... Haway Durham !!

Oh one last thing...I wonder if the wonderfully named Jack Blatherwick plays for the hosts - surely the most Lanky name since the days of Ken Shuttleworth.

Quite looking forward to 4 days away. We've both said if it's a flat deck load of shit then we'll head off and do other things.
We are thinking of going over. Do you know if there is access to their pavilion for Durham members if the weather turns wet? Their members were given access for the White ball matches last season.

I’d like to know this as well. I’ve emailed them. Had problems getting in to members areas at both Worcester and Bristol in recent years.

if you e-mail their ticket office they respond very quickly, I've just sorted our tickets and they were very helpful. £45 for 4 days is sound enough, as any "refunds" I'll get the one day cup tickets from.

Doubt it as the pavilion is quite small. Was at T20 couple of years back and deluge just before end of 1st innings. Went to shelter under a temporary stand. Moved on by stewards- health and safety risk(lightning).

He'll bowl, I reckon. Pottsy to get the game off (I think England said he could play 5 from 7). I wonder if Stokesy will be designated nighthawk for this one? ;)

Planning on going on Sunday. Do you need to buy tickets in advance or can we just turn up on the day

According to Wikipedia the capacity is 5k. My pal who is a Lancs supporter rang the OT box office today to check if he needed to buy in advance, and was told he could pay on the day.

I suppose the balance of the team will all be about what Stokes role is and will he take any part as a bowler. I would have thought it would be pre arranged before hand how many overs he can bowl if he is deemed fit enough.
Gut feeling either way i reckon they will go with their normal 4 man seam attack and Parky with Stokes as an extra option.

Like others have said, it will be interesting to see if Stokes comes into the side in place of a batsman or the 4th bowler. I wouldn't be surprised to see him replace Clark rather than someone like Carse.

That's simply down to a limit on the amount of overs Stokes will be allowed to bowl rather than the form of other players.

I was hoping you wouldn’t do this TRT . Backfired last week when you highlighted Hamprica’s batting fragility

I was under the impression - from all the noises coming out of the club - that the entire reason for him coming back and playing county cricket was so that he could get his bowling fitness back. To that end I expect he’ll bowl, but it wouldn’t be expected that he’ll be a full go at this point I wouldn’t think.

I’m more interested to see how many more games he plays, England don’t start their Test summer until July so I see no real reason why he can’t play in all the Championship games between now and then and the start of our Blast campaign.

He’s no Frank Sidebottom and I always preferred John Shuttleworth.

Blatherwick sounds like a type of seaweed

I just hope he can bowl flat out. Not a fan of him just using this as a light warm up for our very weak summer test schedule.

I don’t really consider Stokes a Durham player due to his extremely limited involvement would like to see Woody play but heard nothing on his current injury status.
