What is the point in Trai Hume?

Such an unneeded and poor thread

We have a core of players who are keeping the club afloat, who are young and never get injured and always play

Hume, Neil, Patto, Clarke until one injury, Ballard ti an extent

To call out any of them is madness, they are a credit to the club

And been totally let down my our signings and managerial appointments

Young players make mistakes. I see people above analyzing our goals on Monday, shock. A 21 year old makes a mistake, how about signing some players older than him?
Outstanding post mate.

Out of all the things wrong at the club at the moment the OP chooses to dig out Hume man.
It stinks of the coach trying to make a name for himself been a forward thinking young dynamic coach with new ideas , it doesn’t work it’s ridiculous your plugging gaps in midfield but the other team is exploiting your right side as he’s out of position it only works if you have all the possession and never give the ball away we don’t do that. We are over complicating trying to get championship players playing like cancelo or zivchenko their heads are battered
Mowbray started this nonsense of him being an inverted full back mind. He's been doing it all season.

Three outta five goals scored on his post.

If ya read on though, the thread's more a criticism of the role, which you agree is a nonsense, rather than his ability.

The thread title is "What is the point in Trai Hume?" and the OP says "Absolutely appalling defender." which looks like a criticism of the player to me (and is also very wrong).

 Gotta grab people's attention haven't ya.

I did ask in the OP if it's instruction or the player. I'm inclined to think it's instruction, and there is no point in that role. The cons outweigh the pros, if there even are any pros.

I was being harsh with the appalling comment, though I'm not completely sold on his defensive abilities mind. He's a good footballer. Lots of modern full backs are better footballers than they are defenders. The trouble with Trai Hume and the walkabout game he's playing is barring the odd sliding tackle the crowd thrives on, we're not getting much defending out of him.

The tactics have been dreadful and haven't helped him or the team. It's madness really.

I don't think there were many people critical of his defending last season when he wasn't being asked to play in this way so hopefully when/if we realise how daft it is and get him back to just playing full back then he'll get back to his previous standard.

Shocking. And we've done it all season.

 They're taking their time about it...

Aye. You've got to hope that when the new bloke comes in either Dodds isn't here or he tells Dodds to fuck off when he says "we think Trai is best suited to playing inverted fullback".

It’s the role.

But I think he should play CB.

He showed for me that this is his best position in the run-in last year. Not least as the man tasked with standing up to the Luton barrage.

Assuming no signings/sales - I would focus a lot of the off-season switching him to centre-back and coaching Luke to be an option as a DM again.

A back four next year of: Huggins, Hume, Ballard, Cirkin would be a big improvement if we can get it on the pitch.
Huggins, at absolute best, wont be fit until the end of next season

Cirkin also seems to be constantly injured

Styles situation and Speakmans comments make the situation more and more seem like politicians speak.
Just saying what they think people want to hear.
We know its shite.
They know we know it's shite.
And we know they know we know
:D

Used 'the data.' Scouted him for ages. Tried numerous times to sign him on that basis.

In reality we played him LWB, RW, LB, a bit in CM, then state we don't know what his best position is, but rarely play him in the position says he prefers and which he plays for his country.

And yet a small minority defend everything that he has done and comes out of his mouth. I've said before the bloke is a complete narcissist

Styles is a poor player and has been lucky throughout his career. There have been kids in our academy who havent had chances like him who havent played at a higher level and players there right now like Middlemass and Kelly who would add more value than him.
