Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Saints fans calling him

Crock Ness Drogba

and , wait for it ….

Ross Poofart
Poor that mind. If anyone, they should be having a go at their manager/recruitment team. They were aware it was a long term bad injury with no way of knowing the long term outcome. It’s a shocking buy tbh from their perspective when he was coming out of contract.

Yet the vast majority on here were advocating us to give him whatever he wanted to keep him and ripping the club to shreds for refusing to do so!
The vast majority? It was pretty even wasn’t it. A lot wanted to re-sign him but not at whatever level he wanted. Those who were saying “give him whatever he wants” wasn’t a majority surely

This board would’ve combusted if we did the same mind saying that

arguably Safc best bit of business in modern times

We massively miss Ross like. The way we work the ball wide constantly, requires a striker who can occupy the Centre half’s and be a threat in the air and be alive in and around the box. Unfortunately we just don’t have anyone who comes close and it’s allowing our wingers to be doubled up on, especially Clarke. The deal has been proven to be right for the club but January is massive for us, we either need to change the way we play or we buy someone in the mould of Stewart or our season is fuked.

Does finishing mid table mean our season is knackered? That’s where we are at the moment but we could also be where Sheff Wed are. Maybe have some patience as only second season back in. Chanpionship

The club didn't pull some masterstroke off by selling him ffs, they would have sold him if he'd been fit and banging them in for us.
We were just lucky Southampton wanted to splash out on a crocked player.
The club did some good business getting the money they did for him, they would have got fuck all in January for him.
We did, we brought in lots of wingers and keep trying to play them up front
Other than Burstow, Mayenda and Hemir, arguably Rusyn too as he has played a striker previously, you're right.

They have the money to take a risk with £40mil for Livramemto, sold others, parachute money incoming. Worth a gamble for them.

Confirmed as being out again until late January after suffering another setback.

While a ( not vast ! ) majority initially wanted the club to keep him and pay him a proper wage ..... the majority became a minority once Ironside Stewart made it plain and obvious by his silence that he wanted away.

I feel sorry for the lad, a fit RS would have been terrific for us.
On the other hand, cracking business to let him go and equally cracking for RS to get a nice, well paid contract.

As you say though, 17 minutes game time in 4 months ain't great, and now another longish lay-off.

I think we missed a bullet there.

I’d have kept him to get him playing. I’d have been wrong. Though my reason was we’d end up with much worse and sadly I’m right on that.

It might turn out in the long run. Doubt Southampton would be happy if it didn’t. £14m is a poor gamble whatever they have taken in. £10 m + £4m wages. There’s not many teams take a gamble until the injury has healed and back playing.
