But not as dim saying alteranitive!its been the PREMIER LEAGUE since 2007.
People, PLEASE stop saying the Premiership, makes you look dim.
PL is a great alteranitive.
Premier Leauge - England
Premiership - Scotland
Brilliantly explained and in great detail how having a big stadium and getting the pricing right for young fans really benefits Sunderland FC.I know he's a mag pretending to be a Leeds fan but he probably doesn't even know he's right about the fiver or he's just too thick to explain what he means. It costs our U18s just £105 for a ST so just £4.57 over 23 games, or £2.40 for U16sEven the U22s pay just £7.83 a game and this is why the SOL size is class as we're one of few clubs who take the piss out of loyal fans who commit to buying a season ticket. Very few clubs allow their U22 fans to buy concession tickets in over 90% of the ground as all the clubs I've mentioned either have a 2 stands, just 1 stand or even just sections of a stand with the discounted prices.
If Leeds had a similar pricing structure then I'd dare say they'd sell out a 40,000 stadium no bother. I say that given their Championship prices in the 2016/17 season were higher than what ours are now, considerably higher in some stands/areas also. Another clue to the higher prices their fans are being charged is that they got £10.2m in gate receipts that season from just 27,698 fans. Last time we were in the Premier League in 2016/17 we got £10.4m from an average of 41,287 fans.
They got £12.6m in 2018/19 in their Championship's last full season accounts from 34,000 fans, yet in their 2021/22 season in the Premier League their revenue went up to £24.5m from 36,405 fans. They finished 17th and only got knocked out in both Cups in their 1st games, both away so that won't have added much to match day revenue. Unless those extra 2,400 fans were paying £5,000 each a ST then they've obviously put prices up since 2017/18. That's an average of nearly £660 per fan and last season with our £9.48m from 39,046 fans is an average of £243. It's not just the higher STs either, it seems they're limiting the amount of available STs. That's obviously so they can sell out the rest of the ground at full match day prices taking the piss out of fans as said here by @Real class of 92 which is shocking.
Our ST base has remained unchanged over the last 4 years (23,000 approx) but what has changed is the waiting list which is 22,000. The club have decided not to sell anymore STs during this period bar replacing the few hundred that do not renew with those at the top of waiting list. The clubs stance is that with an additional 50,000 members paying £50 a pop for a membership they need to have a fair crack at getting tickets
Know plenty of Leeds fans around where I have my ST that are paying double per game from what I pay if I break my ST down to a match by match status. My ST for last season was £389. Someone doing those 19 home games with just a membership would have paid circa £800.
Can you imagine if we got promoted to the PL but SAFC kept the Premier concourse closed and limited the sale of STs to just 22,000 but priced the same as Leeds pricing structure and then asked the remaining 50,000 fans to pay £50 just for a chance to be first to buy a match day ticket at full Leeds prices?
Maybe now some will get the point of my waffling posts as like I've said a few times, it's a bit of a blinkered view if people just focus on the attendance figures alone and start slating other clubs by that number alone or have a bit tit for tat throwing attendance numbers around like confetti. If some were to take off the blinkers and realise we've got one of the best pricing structures for fans as the club doesn't take the piss out of fans while other clubs do then they may not even bother with the 'quite often' dick waving contest and naive comments.
But even disregarding the ripping of a match day fans by some clubs, of course we've still got one of the best, largest and loyalist followings and are 'bigger' than Leeds![]()

The argument about money destroying the game has been raging for decades. Right back to the 1930s Arsenal, Everton, Blackpool and villa were known as Bank of England clubs cos of their financial supremacy. Same with Sunderland in the 1950s. Alf Common's £1000 transfer from Sunderland to Boro in 1905 caused outrage. Then in more recent times you've had the likes of Walker's millions buying Blackburn the title. Man City and any other wealthy club today are just modern day versions. You are right in a way money is the only true arbiter of club size ..but the standing of a club in game of football was (perhaps not now )more than its bank balance ..it was an salmagundi of its history, its trophies and its fanbase ..............those last three are becoming irrelevant and its destroying the game in my book. Because of the pyramid nature of our football there is nothing stopping say a Jim Radcliff type figure (and im surprised somebody hasn't done this with another minnow) from taking eg North Shields to the top of the premiership!in reality all it would take would be a shit load of money and time!Do you see how money is destroying the game bit by bit ,destroying what made it great !

Leeds barely hit crowds of 30k for 20yr you deluded wanker only recently you haveAgreed. Leeds are a much bigger club than Sunderland.
Sunderland have a limit on how big they could be. Leeds have unlimited potential.
Sunderland do have a good support though and are a decent sized club. But they aren't in Leeds league.
Sunderland have only soldout the SOL about 5 times since it opened 26 years ago.
Leeds would have soldout 50k many times if capacity allowed.
Who??Brilliantly explained and in great detail how having a big stadium and getting the pricing right for young fans really benefits Sunderland FC.
No mate, my father did, and I have spent alot of time on the terraces of Roker Park..(as a kid) I've always followed and wanted them to do well..I was going to put AFC.Who??
I assume that you don’t support SAFC?
Two clubs who you try and faux a rivalry with. Most neutral fans would say Leeds are a bigger club than Sunderland.
Couldn’t care less about Sunderland only boro fans who do are kids. Most older folk definitely don’tTwo clubs who you try and faux a rivalry with.
Is a lot of that because Leeds were one of the top clubs in the 1970's, whereas Sunderland spent a lot of that period out of the top flight? Most neutral fans would say Leeds are a bigger club than Sunderland.
Know wev17 personally, do you?Two clubs who you try and faux a rivalry with.
30k on st waiting list for a reason, every home seat sold since 2018, 55k expansion plans starting in 2024, much bigger revenue that safc,NO one has ever thought of Sunderland close to the size of leeds JesusTo be fair we are bigger than all of the relegated teams so I would expect us to have bigger crowds. Leeds home crowds are shit for such a large city with the exception of a few years in the Premier League
Sunderland only got above 20,000 average for 6 seasons in the decades of 80's and 90's and one season during that period averaged 13,000.Leeds barely hit crowds of 30k for 20yr you deluded wanker only recently you have
Then they would be wrong. Most neutral fans would say Leeds are a bigger club than Sunderland.
