36.566 Leeds average

Midfield
In the premiership last season this was Leeds average gate, so you'd imagine that in the Championship it might be lower. Southampton and Leicester were lower. We've already outdone these numbers with our season tickets/cards, so are we all confident around having the best gates in the Championship?

Leeds can only fit 38k, Leicester and Southampton can only fit 32k. We average 38.6k last year. If we hit same numbers we will be clear again.

Unless we are in the top 6 all season our average will be very similar to last year . So we will smash it

There's no doubt that we have a tremendous following, especially away, given the shite we've had in recent years and being starved of success. However, what a few people don't take into account is the pricing structure and availability of those 'cheaper' tickets we have at the SOL that do help our numbers. Just look at the Sheff Wed prices in these posts in another thread, along with Leeds and Leicester.

Look at the revenue created from just 4,000 Sheff Wed fans aged 18-21. They generate the same revenue as 10,000 to as many as 14,000 SAFC fans aged 18-21. It's a piss take asking their fans to pay that much given their capacity and where they've been in recent seasons. Leeds will probably generate way more match day revenue than we will. Also note the link to a post from a Leeds fans saying they restricting ST sales and force fans who are 'members' to pay inflated match day ticket prices!

Here's another example in Southampton as they generate millions more match day revenue than SAFC. Yet they only have a 30,000 capacity and the revenue is higher because they restrict the 'cheaper' tickets and have even higher prices for premium seats. Look at their 2023/24 prices and how they have many sections trying to maximise revenue. At a rough guess I reckon they have around 5,000 seats in the cheaper Family Section. This is unlike the SOL that has the 4 stands and simple pricing structure and allows cheap tickets from the younger fans in around 90% of the ground.

The thing is that some clubs know that some fans will still pay it and it ends up pricing out many other fans, more so if the club is restricted by capacity such as Southampton do. If some other teams had the same capacity as the SOL along with the same ticket prices/availability etc then they'd probably have higher gates. Or the same could be said if we had a lower capacity and had Sheff Wed's pricing structure as it would certainly hit our numbers.

Note this isn't a bash at our fans because like I said, there's no doubt about our tremendous numbers. I'm just showing that these days it's not just simply about crowd numbers alone like it was when ticket prices were lower and closer between clubs. This is why it's become a pointless dick waving contest to some degree as you can't bash another teams following as much as some do if they're having to pay a shit load more and/or have restricted capacity.

But aye, we will top the average table in the Championship this season for certain, along with beating many PL teams as we'll finish 11th overall in all the leagues 😎 If we have a good season then we may even compare to Everton's 39k, Chelsea's 40k and Villa's 41k which is 8th overall.

To be fair we are bigger than all of the relegated teams so I would expect us to have bigger crowds. Leeds home crowds are shit for such a large city with the exception of a few years in the Premier League
I don't get this how Sunderland are bigger than the relegated teams we've won one trophy in 87 years played 4 games in Europe in our history leeds for example have won just as much as us and have appeared in 6 major European finals winning 2 of them our successful period came in victorian times leeds have been by far the bigger and more successful club since the 70s

They were definitely more successful for a decade or so. I don't think they've ever been a bigger club though.

If our prices were similar we'd sell the exact same amount of tickets as we do now.
How many would stop going if they had to pay £500 as apposed to £400? = not many.
How many u18 would stop going if they had to pay £200 as apposed to £99? = not many.

I don't go with the argument that we only get big crowds because it's cheap.
