Dun Cow, Peacock, Engine Room, Streetbar are all dear. Supporters will pay the money for decent beer in decent surroundings. They’re not going to want to pay £5 for a can of Guinness poured from three feet above into a plastic cup by a teenager who wants to get it in the cup as sharp as possible. They’re also not wanting to stand on a concrete concourse with shite surroundings.

People are loyal to the club. If there was anything half way decent people would rather drink at the stadium than in some boozer down the road where a pint is 50p cheaper.

Could bet your bottom dollar that if the club were to announce tomorrow that they were redeveloping concourses and it was designed to generate income he’d change point of view sharpish. It’s flexi finance management.

The big money is in beefing up commercial contracts and hospitallity. Less money could be spent refurbing those areas for a better return.

Just the Hilton. The car parks are the club's.

The club needs to increase turnover to aid the sustainability it's can't just hope we can sell players for profit.

The ground needs maintenance and it's not going to magically get better or cheaper.

I just thought with all the people that post on here there might be some good ideas or might generate some interest.

But if it costs more than £1.27 and some haribos it's a non starter

It's a stadium, it will never compete with any of those bars regardless to what they do. It's not comparable in terms of surroundings and you can't exactly have stuff on tap for 10 people every 2 weeks where most people don't want it and want Guinness or Carling.

I really couldn't give a toss about the concourse personally, I go to watch the football, not to get pissed and could imagine the vast majority of our fans would agree. It's certainly not something that will make people not go to the game.

Ah well. Leave the stadium as it is. Ignore what big clubs up and down the land and across Europe are doing. Why move on from the 90s eh

You’re right. But as I say, every one of the nay sayers would be absolutely delighted and waxing lyrical about the business acumen of our owners if it was to happen. All of a sudden it’d be a great idea.

You’re absolutely right like. The stadium actually needs attention and not just desirable changes. The stitch in time principle applies. We’ve got a sound stadium that was designed with modernisation and expansion in mind. After nigh on 30 years, it needs to be considered. What was the point in having a modern stadium as the jewel in the crown of the club if it’s just going to be left to get tired and fall behind competitors?

Do a massive football card, with about 35000 football clubs on it at a £5 a pop. £20 for the winner with the rest going to the club. I’ll even wave any commission.

We’ll have that monorail in no time at all.

Nowt will work, no one's bothered, no one will buy anything and some old bloke kept yapping out how he's taken a hip flask in for the last half a century so why doesn't everyone else

The maximum lifespan you get for steel sheet coatings is 40 years these days and even then you need stainless steel fixings. Confidex is the Tata steel name for it, can't think of the top of my head what kingspan call theirs.

That's without taking into account the coastal environment and exposure.

Some sheets are already starting to fail and coating that lot or god forbid having to replace some will not be cheap

Personally just give it a spruce up, who cares about other clubs in Europe are doing who have loads of tourist fans including Tottenham who make a day of it. Nice paint job, maybe a fake ceiling in the North / East / South stand to hide the stand above, nice shiny floor and some focal LED lights, job done.

I'd rather we looked at new ways of ordering to get drinks out quicker and better food as it's shite currently. Not radical rebuilds. Ideas like having an app, you order your drink / food before half time and you go down and collect it at a set collection point to save the farce of having to do orders on tills etc. Would help spread people out aswell similar to McDonalds pretty much nowadays.

So at least some modernisation of some kind!

For the longer term, it needs some redevelopment and modernisation. We should care about other clubs in Europe. Why should our supporters not have as good a matchday experience with a home to be properly proud of? Sunderland AFC is the most important institution in the city and the stadium should be the best landmark. IMO SAFC should have a home that competes with the best not one that will just do

Can't sell merchandise because of some baby bottles we didn't sell once, can't increase the concourse or change the food and beer as they don't make money and we can't compete with pubs
Can't do an outside area as that's pointless and it's easier ignore the huge development with loads of extra housing and offices being built right near the ground.
Stadium needs tarting up, but no one is told what that means and when

Can improve commercial contracts (I assume that's club sponsors) and hospitality as that's cheaper and may give us money.

Seems to be the top and bottom of it

Yeah definitely, it's pretty grim under there right now. Definitely needs a refurb regardless and get arid of the banners and get arid of the cold white globe lighting at least. Very 90's, infact it was pretty much outdated when it opened. The exterior needs done aswell though imo, the bit where they replaced it for the family corner looks much nicer than the rest of the stadium. It's all outdated and at the same time try and change the turnstiles to get more in, since they don't need the massive area wasted for ticket sellers which don't exist anymore. Could easily get 3 where there's 2 now imo - at least. Similar with the exit doors, surely there's some solution so they can be turnstiles aswell which can be moved after the game.

Getting in is the biggest match day pain imo.
