Sustainability / Commercial ideas

I didn't even know there where a tiny amount of bars that did burgers till yesterday

Although it doesn't sound like I'm missing much

Like I've said, its been mentioned loads it isn't viable. Just looking at ideas to increase turnover to help the club

Extending the concourses should be done for H&S reasons alone. However it won't significantly increase beer sales (you might get a 3-4% uplift) as the pub will still be way more attractive.

I assume the concourses pass all the required h&s requirements so that's not going to happen. If extending them to try and get extra food outlets in isn't viable then I can't see anyone extending them of they are classed as fit for purpose.

You’ve just got to look at some of the other stadiums to see what clubs get away with. That away stand at Blackpool should be bulldozed for example.

Aye. But it’s a key part of the day for a lot who get the football as their pass out and maximise the opportunity. The club could cash in more on that!

Imagine how much people could enjoy that if there was a proper offering!
What’s a proper offering ? Even more time in the concourse while the match is going on ?

Do people really want to 'make a day of it' at the ground? You've got the town on the doorstep. Two hours in the ground is enough for most people. We cannot keep people in their seats for a full 90 minutes as it is.

Sounds like a canny big bit of work that mind, not sure it’ll help with sustainability as the cost would be astronomical. Sprucing the concourses up a bit wouldn’t do any harm mind.
It has to be done, it really isn't fit for purpose even if they just did the east stand for now it would ease the flow of the south which is quite frankly ridiculous, total gridlock at half time for those who actually wait until the whistle

People are loyal to the club. If there was anything half way decent people would rather drink at the stadium than in some boozer down the road where a pint is 50p cheaper.

Surely it's better people are drinking at the pub..?

That match day revenue for the pub could keep the local pub open and is a community asset providing jobs all year round. Compared to the stadium where it's irrelevant money really and keeps some kids on minimum wage a Saturday job once every 2 weeks.

There's very few other events which brings a steady revenue to them in Sunderland.

Vending machines
Savvy kiosk operatives
To me the majority want to be in and then away
i dont think anything would make them spend two hours more a game in there
just make as much as you can in the golden period by giving great service
Buy the stewards smaller jackets
they all have xxxl

But that’s what it’s like now and agree, nobody wants that. I was meaning if they made it decent, people wouldn’t be put off paying 50p more than the boozer down the road. That’s obviously a big, ‘if’ and would require, decent choice, warmth, space, seats, better service etc etc etc
I walked down Sheepfolds after the match last week and realised the car park towards the metro has all been done. Who did that? Got pay meters up etc so probably the council but at least it’s a bit smarter
The council did that as 2 carparks have been closed in the city and a lot of people were parking in sheepfolds for free then walking into town.

I agree but I just don’t think there’s appetite at the club to do it.

I might be totally wrong on this, but given the sustainability push, any potential investment in infrastructure will ultimately be judged on when the club see a return.

For example, let’s say it will cost £10m to totally revamp the SOL. If the club think it will only take 2-3 years to get that money back, they probably would consider it a risk worth taking. If, however, it’s going to take 10 years, then they will probably reject it.

For the record 😂, I’ve said for years they need to revamp the SOL. It should be a priority (after the playing side of course)
I think the club would (or at least should) be looking towards more 10 year plans, rather than quick gains in the short term
