Odd that Potts is in lions squad but not the main one

Archer, Mahmood and Carse travelling with the squad as part of their recovery programmes. Good to see them on the come back trail, would be nice to have some quick options rather than just whoever is fit enough to show upYou must be logged on to see media items
See, Bess can bat and I can see him becoming another Dawson in a couple years.Surprised at some of the comments on the thread mind, it’s really innovative thinking
They don’t trust the next best spinners from leach like Bess and Parkinson
So picking 2 lads who can just hold an end and get quick runs from number 8. It’s bold and attacking I like it

Parkinson, I still think he has something and would be a really good 2nd or 3rd choice spinner
Think the argument was if Leach gets injured then we don’t have another frontline spinner to play. The squad is fine but I thought Potts and another spinner should have wentSurprised at some of the comments on the thread mind, it’s really innovative thinking

Overton instead of Potts?
Only one frontline spinner on the subcontinent?
Duckett, Livingstone, Jacks and Brook = white ball experts?
The one I don't necessarily disagree with is Jennings over Lees. Jennings is decent against spin (although he'll be nicking off all owa against their pace bowlers).

Seamers wise -Yeah fair point, as said above the young leggy is going and the word is he is unofficially in squad really
Suspect one of the seamers from the lions will end up going. Agree on Potts I think that squad lacks of a bowler who can bowl all day, all the tough overs
Potts will be quite far down the pecking order next summer likr with archer and wood back
Think he will play loads for Durham
100% Potts should have gone, just for the experience at least
Seamers wise -
Jimmy plays when fit
Wood and Archer to rotate given workloads
Robinson plays when fit
Broad, probably plays when fit (think he bowled well at the back end of the summer after a rough start)
Stokes as the 5th seamer
Then
Potts for me
Woakes if his pace is good and knee holds up
S Curran
C Overton after Curran
Mahmood if he recovers well
Stone if Wood and Archer are unavailable
J Overton after him
That's a base of 12 seamers to choose from if all fit

Unrelated but with the T20 being the only thing on offer of late, I’ve proper missed joe root slamming the ball to the boundary. Love him to bits.I know you cant compare T2O and Tests, but England clearly want batsman who can score quick and people who can bowl some overs in the team, I wonder if Brook might actually miss out, even though everyone assumes he would replace Bairstow.
England's whole mantra is just to win the next game, so doesnt really matter if he "deserves" his chance or will play next summer etc.
I mean playing livingstone and jacks.
Jennings
Crawley
Pope
Root
Livingstone
Stokes (C)
Foakes (WK)
Jacks
Wood
Leach
Robinson/Jimmy
Gives them 6 bowlers, plus some Root. I think they will want the seamers to bowl at absolute maximum effort, and will rotate and get creative with the rest to "buy" some wickets, which they did all summer.
I think Livingstone will 100% play IMO, as I just dont think they'd ferry him across there to carry the drinks when he could be used elsewhere in the set up.
I’d be surprised if Potts features in the ashes

I like the look of that team personally think its exciting, and its the only way England can win really is to try attack and be agressive, there is no chance they grind it out and win attritionaly
Quite a few of the squad well rested, which makes a change.
Hope stokes gets through series, might need to be as a batter and back up bowler. Frontline and I think his knee will give up.
Next summer we’ll have a lot returning from injury I think he’s down the pecking order:I’d be surprised if he doesn’t.
Swings it both ways, gets nip off the surface, the ability to change the game in a single spell.
