Strauss and his stupid ideas....

Shocking, but not at all surprising.

If this is to be an even handed review why aren't they looking at the impact of The Hundred on the rest of cricket. The answer is for no good reason. It's a crying shame that the Hundred is sacrosanct, while County Cricket is the first dish on the menu to be carved up.
The CC is the main course.

They had the 50 over competition for a starter, just after the World Cup final which had the whole country transfixed.

Staggering.

Strauss is a tool. And we are stuck with the 100 atleast for another 6 years. If players are wanting to travel around one day tournaments in different leagues, a couple less championship games will hardly change their thoughts.
They have expedited the problem by creating another competition for players to sign up for, which isn't even a recognised format. Making a 6 team first division with two feeder leagues, just means clubs will lose players from their academies much easier

He's talking like the top players play in the CC at the minute, which is bollocks. When the players reach that level they use the CC as a tune up for test matches, and rightly so. Or they would, if we actually played CC games in the summer.

It just seems so obvious to me, a sixteen week season and standardised weeks. (For example....) All CC games start on a thursday, the ODC is played on Mondays and are all day/night games except on bank holidays, of which there are 4 during the season. Have the ODC final on the second August Bank holiday followed by the last 2 rounds of the CC, break for a month for the Blast in July.

There's realistically up to 24 weeks of the year in which the season has to fit, it's no that hard.

All that seems sensible apart from imo the blast should be in August/back end of July to attract kids who are off school and parents to take their kids to night games with no school the next day.

Parents who are looking for activities to do for bored kids, and kids asking to go to games would happen more in that timeframe

Encouraging that this isn’t going to be steamrollered in. Or am I just being naive in thinking there will be a proper consultation?
I am of the opinion that most things planned and thought through and consulted for longer is normally better than decisions made too quickly

Strauss has ruined his legacy. A great player becoming a total **** over this review.

He’s an utter, utter cock.

Saw that earlier. Top stuff from Richard Thompson.

As one member of an Internet cricket group remarked today and hit the nail right on the head:

“Richard Thompson has begun the healing of domestic cricket”

Surely this won't get the votes to pass?

Not a chance counties can afford the loss of revenue and with the proposals meaning only 5 home county champ games and potentially 0 one dayers membership prices would need to take a massive hit?

I’d hope not, but of course not all counties are equal in terms of opportunity. I would suspect the counties who have a ‘franchise’ and play at a Test venue aren’t as worried about their ability to make home game revenue as those without those things.

The cynic in me thinks certain counties would jump at the chance of a system that will inevitably kill of some of their competitors. After all, there’s only a finite pot of resources and at present there are 18 shares of that pot.

12 votes to pass, I just can't see where they come from. The 10 non 16.4 counties have had a taste of the ECB bribe and have seen that it didn't stop them trying to twist the knife more. I still have some hope that this is the tipping point for the counties and they get themselves together and take the ECB down.

Remember, not all of the 16.4 host counties are on board with the farce.

Taken from elsewhere but an outstanding post:

“It’s 2011, early season, and the England captain is making a guest appearance for Somerset against the Indian touring team. The reason cited for this unusual move is that the opening batsmen needs to prepare for the upcoming test series and hasn’t sufficient opportunity to play county championship games for his own club, Middlesex. The player in question is one Andrew Strauss. Funny that.”

I really hope you’re right.
