Gooch?I agree. How many great opening batsmen in history have been stroke players.
I’ll offer up Warner, Sehwag, Slater, Trescothick….struggling now

Has he? Not from what I have seen. He has played on flat pitches this year and could always score runs on flat pitches.Jennings has changed his technique since he last played for England. Scored that triple century this season and got to 3 figures on a few occasions.
Burns - we know what we are getting, out cheaply or will grind out a score (done this against very good attacks) - Consistently inconsistent
Sibley - similar to burns but without as much credit for England.
Robson - fairly consistent- middling average but done pretty well this season.
Hameed - having a good season but too soon to recall, but could be an option to tour Bangladesh/Pakistan
Duckett - batting 3 but having a fantastic season, it's a 1 ball promotion and hes a better player then when he was last picked.
Personally think Crawley is in last chance saloon here and Lees has got the next 2 tests to have a tour place in the winter.
I dont think Pope will ever convince me as being a number 3 unless he tightens up playing away from his body (didnt harm Ponting much and tbf that's probably who he should be trying to emulate).
Vaughan....tresco and vaughan in this team...
Agreed darlingWeather looks set fair do it should be another result babe
Agreed darling
Was an article on cricinfo little while back, not sure if it was Bumble who said itHas he? Not from what I have seen. He has played on flat pitches this year and could always score runs on flat pitches.

I don’t remember Edrich being a stroke player as such, more of your traditional take the shine off the ball accumulator type.Struggling after those four??
How can you not of mentioned these four.....??
Four of the greatest batsmen who ever played the game.
H. Sutcliffe
L. Hutton
J. Hobbs
J.Edrich
Someone who knows his cricket history![]()
Enrich was the model on how to play opening bowlers. Soft hands, minimum backlift, play as late as possible. Crawley should study video of Edrich innings.I don’t remember Edrich being a stroke player as such, more of your traditional take the shine off the ball accumulator type.
