The Fishing Thread

Well last day of woodlands trip today. Had a lovely time. Bairn has learnt to fish and caught a nice 8lb Carp.

Just had four hours on Kestrel peg 10 had 17 carp on bomb fishing a banded 8mil pellet and feeding three pellets over the top. Knackered now.
Are you stopping in the lodges?

Had a walk on Roker Pier yesterday afternoon with the granddaughter and the mackerel were plentiful at the lighthouse roundhead. So much so that the lads gave us five big ones in a carrier bag….thanks lads, very kind of you.
Gutted and filleted. 😎😋

Jeffers, he was targeting the big barbel the stretch is renown for, the run was a solid screamer, the cat swam off strongly when he released, he said he couldn't stop shaking when he got back in his bivvie.

Send them up the mid Thames.
The flows have been ruined by installing a water powered electricity plant upstream.

Long fish that and would go even heavier at the end of September when they get to their prime.
Any idea to how big that one went?

That one was 20Lb 9oz,authenticated on 2 sets of scales by five people. Heard a story, true or false I don't know, or a 23 Lb barbel from the same stretch.

Ive been clearing my stretch of river today for brown trout fishing (removing overhanging branches etc).

Spotted a kingfisher and a family of dippers. Theres plenty of brownies or salmon parr taking flies on the surface.

I cant wait to get started

Ive also been hammering bass around luce bay, nothing massive best around 3.5lb. Theres plenty of fish around atm.

Was on holiday in France last week, bought a cheap telescopic kit in a supermarket and took the bairn in the river…he got the bug so just been to Rutherfords and kitted us both out for the pier/beach…can’t wait to get back out, must be 15yr since I last fished. We got nowt in the river as the kit wasn’t right, I’m desperate to get him his first catch…what’s about at the minute and where’s good to get something ‘easy’ so he doesn’t give up before he gets started? 😬🤣

Probably best to catch a fish is roker pier/ South Shields pier

Follow the crowds

Light light and a spinner- he will likely get a mackerel.

Not the best venue unfortunately but that’s where the easy fish are currently

Brilliant, thanks mate.
Mackerel is probably his best bet as you say, I just want him to land one on his first sea trip so he gets the buzz and we have something else to do together.

Fingers crossed 👍🏼

That is the way to get him hooked if you will pardon the pun.

The connection between angler and fish is amazing, I wish you and your son the very best of luck.
