NUFC/Sportswashing - Summer 2022

No, as mentioned in my previous comment, I am not using sports sponsorship/ownership to improve my reputation. It appears that Saudi Arabia is attempting to use NUFC to sportswash its image.

I'd argue that the Saudi's couldn't care less if fans of NUFC question their ownsherhip, sportswashing is about improving their image on the world stage rather than a small city in the Northeast of England
And by you going to games, supporting your team, buying club products you aren’t part of “attempting to use NUFC to sportswash it’s image”?

Of course it is sportswashing. If you believe that the Saudis are genuinely interested in the football side of things, then you probably still believe in the tooth fairy.

Its a vehicle they will use to park their money, watch it multiply and then leave with a vast amount added to an already staggering fortune.

Its likely to be enjoyable for the fans though. In a relatively short period of time, results have improved markedly, and the squad has improved noticeably.

It will be a slow build, and I think that is the right way to do it.

People expecting masses of expensive signings will be rightly disappointed, it just isn't going to happen, and nor do I want it to.

Commercial income has been appalling in comparison to other PL clubs, and we haven't received any decent money from player sales since selling Ayoze Perez years ago. You can't just go splurging millions immediately, it is unsustainable. The current, measured approach is more appealing.

I would be happy just with a top half finish this season, but even that will be very difficult. Its a very tough league. All teams constantly improve. The bar keeps getting set higher.
Isn't the fact that you haven't received any decent money from player sales recently because Saint Rafa bought an absolute load of unsellable shite? Hard to lay that one at Ashleys door when he had a pretty cracking record of buying cheap and selling high prior to that.

I did answer, I think you, as an individual, are being sportswashed

Why on earth are you avoiding the question?

Yes or no, do you believe every Newcastle fan that attends the match is there supporting Saudi Arabia?
I know, but at least they have had the opportunity to get off the fence. All it means is that they don’t have the balls to say one way or another and that in itself tells its own story. Maybe that is the only question to ask them repetitively?

I mean, your words and that

It wouldnt make any difference if I withdrew my support.

Even Amnesty, who I'm sure we'd agree are pretty hot on human rights abuses, have not called for NUFC fans to withdraw support and they even wished the fans well after the takeover.

It depends on whether whatever Amnesty are saying fits the agenda I'm afraid. Someone here is a paid up member and finds them irrelevant

That is a stupid question. How could I speak for all of them. I have asked three of you on here. You, by your own admission haven’t been sportswashed, Sir Tasker has and El Chapo I am not sure about yet

I'm not asking you to speak for them. Can you please get that notion out of your head?

I'm asking for your opinion on it. You believe I am, so it must follow that the rest are?

Even your branch of LGBTQ seem to have accepted it I believe

Nobody is being sportswashed.

The attempt is to sportwash Saudi Arabia's image.
