Field of Dreams - Freddie Flintoff

enjoyed Michael Vaughan's praise through gritted teeth after mistiming a slog to mid off  Good show overall. Hope those lads keep it up, but less than half had signed on to Vernons when those credits were made. Made me regret packing in at 18 mind and not sticking it out but it was depressing watching 40+ year old getting picked ahead of young kids.

Him and Rob Key blatantly chipped some up to give the kids a catch/ wicket mind…

Why shouldn't an older player get picked ahead of a young kid ? The kid has junior cricket open to him.

The better player should get picked for a league game and clubs can arrange friendlies to give everyone else a game, if it's deemed a problem.
A little bit of research on Twitter says he’s played for at least local two clubs. Spoils it a bit for me as it was meant to be about lads who’d never played cricket.
Must be true if it was on Twitter

Not sure why Adnan didn't play against that private school team, then was suddenly about to play the ex-pros. He would have helped big time.

Nice feel-good viewing, hopefully a fair few of them carry it on

When it was the clubs themselves congratulating him? I want to believe telly is real too Eggy.

He was probably opening for Wigan CC 1s.

Yep, no explanation given on that
He was injured wasn’t he? Knacked his hamstring or something?

It was nice that that Ben lad had got a job working behind the bar at the club.

They touched on it at the end but loads of kids would benefit from being part of a club, part of a community with a range of different ages all helping each other out and being sociable.

Did he already play for Wigan CC before Flintoff's team? If so, that's a bit against the spirit of the show.

"I'm going to build up a team of lads who have never played cricket before"
"oh shit, they're all shite and I need to borrow someone decent to give them half a chance"

I think Flintoff fucked up by not recruiting more experienced coaches. Kyle Hogg doesn't appear to have any history in coaching, he worked in PR after leaving Lancs. I'd like to see a second series where he gets proper international class coaches to work on the same lads.

Edit: or a team of Vicky Pollards, having to drop the bairns off at their mams or babydaddies before nets.

Just finished watching the last episode and thought it was really good. Hopefully those lads continue to play and get stuck in.

That camaraderie you get when playing in a side with your mates is brilliant. It will be the biggest thing I miss when my playing days are over.

Flintoff did a good job. We all know what cricket can offer kids who otherwise would be without family or friends. I think of a few of my club mates who would have drifted if the stability of a club-life did not offer hope. This programme allowed the rest of the country to see what we already know about the best sport in the world.

have to be honest I loved this as did the wife. I think we both agreed we need to start and get out and watch some local cricket and support local clubs. Great to see people involved and enjoying cricket and it's something our region does very well.

Dragged the wife and kids along to Whitburn seconds today on the back of this to at least put some money behind the bar off a few pints
