Thinking McCarthyism isn’t a well known thing exposes more about what you know, than what I know, but I notice you ignored the questions I asked there. Are all new accounts treated with such suspicion? Is that why this thread is a total echo chamber?

My interest has been many years in the making the Mags being taken over has amplified it. Plus after it broke there were many Mag fans in my face trying to bait me with the richest club nonsense. Far from an echo chamber. Skunks come on here trying to deflect their clubs owners despicable acts and are dealt with accordingly. Discussion is had, occasional abuse flung but if dealing with deluded spanners needs that then so be it. It's like you lot come on here expecting it to all unicorns and fairy dust. Its a SMB not a skunks msg board so take it or leave it, your choice. Oh by the way we don't look to blacklist you for being a communist, that was McCarthy in the U.S. in the 50's.

Firstly, have you heard of Google? I wondered what he was talking about (because obviously it wasn’t what the poster I replied to was implying) so I searched ‘Newcastle vs Barcelona’. There are only a couple of options.

Secondly, and I can’t believe I need to tell you this, but 2002 isn’t in the last century.

So many assumptions being made. If you must know, not that anyone actually even asked but I’m a Liverpool fan. Part of my family are from Sunderland and I’ve personally lived worked and studied there. I even used to work at SoL and live practically a stone’s throw away. I have followed what’s happened with the club because of family connections probably my whole life. I even attended several games at Roker Park and I bet some of the younger members here can’t even claim that. I created an account here because one of my nephews is in the Sunderland academy (I also have an older nephew at Newcastle on a schoolboy contract by the by) and I wanted to get more involved instead of just lurking. I already regret it.

By the way, my reference to McCarthyism was about baseless accusations and paranoia, not communism. I know it was OldMoney that said that and not you, but obviously I was too subtle.

It seems to be the most active thread so not really strange. I found that clip interesting because it did seem quite prophetic, the reason I even commented on it was the statement about the super league that I replied to stood out as very odd, unless John Hall had access to a time machine (perhaps buried deep in a basement under the Metrocentre). I also didn’t say I wasn’t bothered about Newcastle, I definitely have an interest in what’s happening there, as my nephew is close to the pro contract or release stage of the academy and the other half of my family are Mags (don’t ask why I was brought up a Liverpool fan, my first kits were bought for me by my Scottish grandparents so I suspect it might be Dalglish related)

Urrgh I’m not sure I want to open that can of worms. Personally I think that the majority opinions I’ve seen from both Newcastle fans and Sunderland fans are fuelled by geo-political ignorance and I’ve seen shockingly stupid statements on both sides.

Ok fair enough, I’ll give my opinion, it might not be 100% popular though and might be different to what you normally hear as I’m in a rather unique position as a supporter of neither Sunderland or Newcastle but with family ties to both (and my job history, which I’m not going to detail other than to say international relations is a factor) gimme a few minutes to grab a drink and type my answer out in detail
