The blokes deluded, he's convinced himself it would have been the same (petitions, lobbying MPs, partying after takeover) if it had been anyone else.
They would have accepted Putin....or Hitler“The Saudi regime is vile but I’m more than happy for them to own my football club”![]()
When you put something in quote marks it stating that it's a direct quote. I never said what you're claiming I did.“The Saudi regime is vile but I’m more than happy for them to own my football club”![]()
They are awful and shouldn't own any football club. But they do. UAE shouldn't own a football club, but they do. Qatar shouldn't own a football club, but they do.
I haven't seen any Newcastle fan defend their regime on here. I've seen Newcastle fans explain, with a great deal of patience, that Newcastle fans aren't supporting Saudi Arabia by continuing to support the club they've supported their whole life and will continue to support after the Saudis are gone.
Hell, a new government might see the Saudis booted out.
For what it's worth I agree that for me, the United in Pride group let themselves down with their stance and statement. However, as a straight man it's not really my place to tell a minority groups how they should make or take their position.
I've not met a single fan who're celebrating that regime. You're mental if you think the pervading opinion among Newcastle fans is that that regime is worth celebrating. I've seen Newcastle fans on here call out that regime, I know I have.
Could there be more public condemnation? Sure. I'd be curious if, once the buzz of the takeover dies down, there are anti-Saudi banners held up by groups amongst NUFC fans.
I hope there are.
But am I wrongWhen you put something in quote marks it stating that it's a direct quote. I never said what you're claiming I did.
By spamming this thread you’re saving the KSA the price of a bot
I hope they’re sending you a third strip, it’s the least you deserve
Yes, you are wrong. I'm not more than happy that the Saudis own us.But am I wrong. Just admit that is what you are saying
OK seeing as you're very up on Brighton at the minute. There wouldn't have been, unless the other parties were prevented from buying the club because they were pirating BEin broadcasts.
There 100% would have been parties if any of the groups I mentioned bought us out. Put it this way, if Chelsea's new owner had bought us instead of them, you think we would have glumly stayed home and ignored the departure of Ashley? Don't be daft.
Just bore off man you boring ****Cheers for proving my point.
Don’t disagree that it’s investment but puts the we just want a team that tries and we don’t give the cups a go comments that were often heard into perspective. But our protests were in line with other teams' protests. West Ham, Leeds, have had protests, Man Utd fans set up an entirely new football team because they didn't want to be owned by the Glazers, Arsenal, the list goes on. If I'm honest, I think that the way your club has been run was deserving of more of a reaction from your fans. Not saying you have to go out and punch a horse, but I can't remember seeing any banners, or organised walkouts, or boycotts.
I think there's a few things to unpack here.
Getting rid of Ashley is a good thing for this club, and pragmatic, sensible improvement is way, way better than scattergun recruitment.
Fans defending the Saudi regime are wrong to do it.
Sometimes it's tricky to separate legitimate concerns about that state owning a football club, from petty football rivalry. Take your man Exile for example, his twitter feed is him saying how awful the Saudis are but includes the last time Newcastle beat Sunderland in the same tweet. Now, is he actually enraged about the Saudis owning a football club, or does he just hate NUFC?
We have signed Chris Wood and Nick Pope, both are upgrades on what we had (Wood > Gayle, Pope > Dubravka), but we've also signed Bruno and Botman who are several levels above Shelvey and Lascelles.
And, given the power to reject the Saudi bid falls in the hands of Ashley, the PL, the FA, and the British Government, there's not much we can do about it.
Since Ashley bought us, Brighton have come from League 1, to the Premier League. They're now a legitimate PL club with aspirations of top half, a good manager, sound long term planning, a brand new stadium, brand new training ground, with a category 1 academy. They look every inch a progressive, ambitious top flight club.
That's investment.
I have no idea but, the one that was, 120k demanded it be accepted, citing corruption as if that was an important issue with regards to the potential buyers.Don't disagree with anything you've said here. Bar where I say it, I'm quite happy to say it on here, on Newcastle boards, in pubs, in the office or wherever. The Saudi regime is vile. I've never defended them on here or anywhere else.
I think the issue I have is the conflation of supporting Newcastle and supporting/celebrating Saudi Arabia. I don't think that's the case at all.
I can't walk away from my football club.
Were there any other bids accepted by Ashley?
Well, in this hypothetical, are we a League 1 side valued at c£90m, who 5yrs ago were close to going out of the League and out of business entirely?OK seeing as you're very up on Brighton at the minute.
What would the reaction have been if Tony Bloom (worth about £1billion) wanted to buy you?
I have an idea. There weren't any other bids accepted by Ashley. Why has the number who signed the petition gone up by 20%?I have no idea but, the one that was, 120k demanded it be accepted, citing corruption as if that was an important issue with regards to the potential buyers.
It's tricky, because within the 15yrs of Ashley's ownership of NUFC, Brighton have come from League 1 to the Premier League. In terms of success, that's pretty rapid. Progress in terms of position in the table will be harder to come by now they're up in the top flight and yes, football fans aren't the most patient, but you'll know as well as I do, if the plan makes sense and some progress is plain to see then fans will be more willing to accept it's going to take some time.Don’t disagree that it’s investment but puts the we just want a team that tries and we don’t give the cups a go comments that were often heard into perspective.
Not criticizing just pointing out that a brighton model isn’t something to bring rapid success and football fans aren’t known for their patience….
Well yes it's hypothetical but don't change the goalposts.Well, in this hypothetical, are we a League 1 side valued at c£90m, who 5yrs ago were close to going out of the League and out of business entirely?
Or would we be a Premier League club worth 1/3rd of his entire wealth?
I have an idea. There weren't any other bids accepted by Ashley. Why has the number who signed the petition gone up by 20%?
Proving your point.Cheers for proving my point.
I'm not changing the goalposts, I'm seeking clarification. Like I said, if Tony Bloom wanted to buy NUFC in 2021 with his £1bn fortune, I'd have been nervous, but delighted to be shot of Ashley.Well yes it's hypothetical but don't change the goalposts.
If Tony Bloom (at the time he already had Brighton established in the Prem) wanted to buy you what would the fans reaction have been?
There are thousands of fans there, only a handful wearing teatowels or carrying Saudi flags. They're singing "sacked in the morning", "get out of our club, you fat cockney bastard", the vox pops talked about the return of hope, a new dawn, some talked about the money.Proving your point.
You said it was a few dozen, there's f***ing thousands there man.
Honestly it's cracking me up at the minuteYou must be logged on to see media itemsf***ing hell, saying they will sell 80k season tickets, because of the 30k that tried to buy those tickets that were recently put on general sale, and a 100k stadium is a must.
Thousands were there just to celebrate getting rid of Ashley, give yer f***ing head a shake man.I'm not changing the goalposts, I'm seeking clarification. Like I said, if Tony Bloom wanted to buy NUFC in 2021 with his £1bn fortune, I'd have been nervous, but delighted to be shot of Ashley.

I counted 2 dickheads with a Saudi flag.
You stated ais if it was fact, that there were thousands wearing tea towels and waving saudi flags. When, in truth, they were overwhelmingly outnumbered by those who weren't.
So, either you're seeing double, treble, whatever the word is for thousand-fold, or you're just making shit up despite the evidence. Like a redneck at a Trump rally.
