15 years? Were the 6 seasons of lower league finishes of 13th, 13th, 11th, 11th, 14th & 13th showing ambition and excitement? Two of your seasons in Europe were through yet another back door due to being a losing finalist in the FA Cup. I think that back door into Europe stopped around 2015 and weren't 3 seasons Intertoto also? What about the 15 years prior or has your history pre 1992 been wiped from your mind like many other mag fans?In the last 30 years NUFC has had 15 years of mostly ambition and excitement, and then 15 years of mostly regression and disillusionment. Ashley was the catalyst for that change.
This is why we call some of your fans deluded @The Fish. Some fans think they rightly deserve to be up there ignoring the fact the money spent back then also due to the growth of the Premier League giving clubs increased revenues. It was a game changer as clubs had all this new revenue coming in and started spending it.wouldnt it be more accurate to say running out of money was the catalyst? the previous owners couldn't sustain it. ashley couldnt/wouldnt either.
Even the likes of Boro paying Ravanelli £42,000 a week in 1996 was unheard of a few seasons prior. You got Shearer for a world record fee paying him the highest wages in Premier League after Ravanelli and highest 2 seasons after. Unlike Boro you also paid big wages to other players and it was unsustainable in the end. They were still chasing breaking their transfer record for Owen and paying him a whopping £110,000 a week (bear in mind this was way back in 2005!). Due to lack of success and Champions League money after that, Hall bailed as he knew he couldn't compete with Abramovich etc and the club was in debt and it would only have got worse if they kept chasing Champions League. The ambitio was actually overspending and gambling on getting future revenue to cover it but at huge risk to the club's finances.
Leeds did the same as did Blackburn but eventually the overspending caught up with them, more so Leeds but they both won summit at least. Leicester have also spent bigger since winning and had their spell of enjoyment but sadly I think it's going to be downhill from now. They aren't in Europe this season and they won't have the revenue to sustain their previous seasons spending and their wage bill of £157m is nearly triple 2015's £57m.

Leicester could sell players like they did previously like Maguire, Kante, Mahrez etc but they still need replacing and they've done well bringing in players but a few bad recruitments and it will catch up with them. It looks like Everton could end doing that too as they spent up so can't spend big unless they sell.
All this overspending by the mags new owners on players and offering big fees & clauses along with higher wages isn't sustainable unless their revenue climbs hugely. If they haven't got in with the big boys in coming seasons it could well go wrong and they end up like Everton. They may well have rich owners but this isn't the 90's again as now the owners can't just go spending money without the revenue coming in. Even the fiddling of sponsorship deals may not be enough to finance it all as the money is obscene now and the revenue of the big 6 combined is greater than the other 14 (lowest of the 6 is still double the highest of 14). I hope it all goes tits up for a few reasons which includes reasons regarding the 'majority' owners.
