That’s because you spent money you didn’t have and you would have went into administration if it wasn’t for Mike Ashley, who payed off the astronomical debt left behind by Hall/Shepherd. This is what makes your dislike towards Ashley irrational. He ran you sustainably and within your means. Face it you’re a mid-table team at best.

Also, considering all the money you spent you still won nowt and underachieved. You only realistically challenged once for the title, you failed to score in the two cup finals you were in and you got thumped whenever you played in Europe.

Your owners aren’t f***ing interested in you and the club, you are just an extension of their attempts to use sport as a means to mask their tarnished image abroad !

He had an interest in running a sustainable debt-free football club. If he'd called it a project you lot would have lapped it up.

He spent when you went down and brought you up. He kept you up and realised that throwing money about the way the fans wanted was likely to be a pointless exercise because he couldn't possibly compete financially with the big boys.

Do Brighton fans whine about their ownership in the same way your lot do about Ashley? Or Palace? Or any other middle order team?

Bottom line is, most of your fans believe you to be a sleeping giant that Ashkey ruined by nit throwing his own cash about. History shows you had a few good seasons that nearly bankrupted your team

Their record since they last won the league nearly 100 years ago is below (up until 92)

They had a little run of 4th, 5th, 4th and some cup wins in the late 40s / early 50s.

Apart from that they’ve been midtable in the top flight or lower for almost the entire time aside from a few years under Keegan / Robson. Those years are a complete anomaly- blasting Ashley for not matching them is absolutely ridiculous, yet the vast majority of mags do it. The entitlement and delusion is almost inexplicable.
