England v India 5th Test, Edgbaston (1st July) Match Thread

A few comments on twitter saying that this summer has rejuvenated test cricket, and I wholeheartedly agree with that mind. There's just such a great feel good factor and excitement around the team that it seems more and more people are talking about cricket at the minute

Definitely. Couple of lads at work have got right into it after seeing bits of highlights, one lad who used to absolutely loathe the sport is now asking me all sorts of questions about the rules and the players and even admitted to watching the majority of the day yesterday!

Deep Dasgupta spoke really well on TMS afterwards about it being bittersweet for him as an Indian but a fantastic advert for the game of Test Cricket as a whole in terms of getting the viewership up.

This Bumrah has a very strange bowling style. Is it even legal? Can imagine he'll end up with a few injuries as it doesn't look natural. Also it's very grey, the Indians will be hoping for rain or bad light delays.
Definitely think he's legal. Another gold thread looms 🤔

Am not ready to concede that.
Maybe if it continues through the winter.

And Jonny Bairstow's fastest Test 50 ever for England, except for Botham.

I think we have three great batsmen and Bairstow is in the form of his life and they're great at run chases.

But thinking back to 1981, not only was it the year of the Headingley Test it was also the year of the Old Trafford Test and the Edgbaston Test both of which were arguably better. And they didn't change cricket but they were the times of a small number of great players and this may be the same. I'll a while before deciding I reckon.

aps Always defended Bairstow as being much better that his critics said but I did think he should have had a red ball game after the IPL before playing Tests, turns out I was worng.

But it's not the way that Bairstow and Root are playing, it's Lee's and Crawley getting the fastest hundred in test cricket. It's the mentality of putting the other team in and chasing down anything. It's building on the tactics we established in the white ball (and the talk that Stokes wants Livingston, Ali and Butler back in the side).

Sure we have good players, but we had them for the last couple of years. With our old tactics of three an over and seeing out the new ball we still lose that game 80% of the time and draw 20%.

I think that thing with England winning the series has been made up by that Indian fan, to stir things up

barmy army are not that dim

BREAKING NEWS: The ECB disciplinary committee have launched an investigation into the allegations of racist abuse during last night's Test between England and India at Edgbaston and decided that

will be deducted 4 points from their

campaign.
