England v India 5th Test, Edgbaston (1st July) Match Thread

..

player of the series for England voted by the written press, is Joe Root
In the future do we change the team in order to fit this style of play?

Perhaps when we think we can chase any target, are we not too interested in slowing the run rate. Eg. Having a spinner for long spells. As it is all about bowling the opposition now?

Or do we want to decrease our tail, e.g. Having a bowler who can bat a bit might be better?
Give me five mins to revel in this ;)

Can't recommend the Test Match special interviews with Stokes, Root, and YJB enough. They'll absolutely glowing with praise about the current setup. Sure you can listen back on Iplayer or they'll be on the website or whatever.

I think it's really exciting, we could well be changing test cricket with this set up
Am not ready to concede that.
Maybe if it continues through the winter.

And Jonny Bairstow's fastest Test 50 ever for England, except for Botham.

I think we have three great batsmen and Bairstow is in the form of his life and they're great at run chases.

But thinking back to 1981, not only was it the year of the Headingley Test it was also the year of the Old Trafford Test and the Edgbaston Test both of which were arguably better. And they didn't change cricket but they were the times of a small number of great players and this may be the same. I'll a while before deciding I reckon.

aps Always defended Bairstow as being much better that his critics said but I did think he should have had a red ball game after the IPL before playing Tests, turns out I was worng.
