F1 2022

Having looked at that crash a few times there is a serious problem with that alfa romeo car. The roll hoop has totally failed and we are seriously lucky it wasn’t a taller driver or his head would have been on the floor. While the halo saved him it’s job is not to keep the drivers head off the ground.

i'm still baffled how diniz survived his crash in very similar circumstances, pre-halo. extra points, it was the sauber that day too where the roll hoop was taken clean away.

Yeah I know, just sod's law that he's been on the wrong end of the luck on a couple of notable occasions in recent times. What an amazing tonic it would have been after the last one to have had a home win to celebrate, and the SC buggers it up as well.

Another fine margin, if Ocon had realised his car was fucked about 3 seconds earlier, he could have pulled into the old pit lane and not caused the safety car.
Yeah I was a bit puzzled at the time why he didn't pull off anywhere earlier as it was obvious his car was fucked. Really don't know what he thought he was achieving

Very interesting theory on Reddit about how Red Bull and Ferrari may be using titanium skid blocks to reinforce the areas of the floor that the FIA load test. Ingenious but dastardly at the same time.

If this is the case, France is going to be fascinating. These mid-season regulation tweaks always seem like a damp squib, but this one might actually shake things up.

Red bull and Ferrari “bending” the rules

Shirley not?

I'm not sure it is bending the rules, unless they are using one shape of skid block for the tests and another when the car is on track. If they are, that definitely opens up a question of legality.

If they're just using an odd shaped skid block at all times, which has the added benefit of making it easier to pass the flex tests, it's just clever exploitation of a loophole. However, I would expect that loophole to be closed fairly quickly, either by testing other parts of the chassis, or standardising the shape of the skid block.

One of the areas the new technical directive that comes in for France is apparently going to focus on is skid blocks, so if this loophole theory is correct, it'll be closed then.

I agree, if they all knew about it and thought it had a benefit, they'd have done it. Amazed that Mercedes didn't click on.

Getting rid of Spa for tracks like Miami and Vegas , awful
No Spa is criminal really. Up there with Silverstone, also seems very counter productive if they want another GP for Max fanboys. Its basically a home GP for him. Street Circuits are the pits.
