Running thread 2022

Not as scientific as the advice D.A gives but doing your long run on a Tuesday evening after a day at work sounds like it's harder than it needs to be. Could you not get into a routine of doing your longer run on a weekend?
I really enjoy the parkruns but I guess I could look at doing long run on a weekday morning when wfh. I'll have a think about that one....thank you.

Might run a half marathon this summer.
Do it.

Doing penshaw half on Sunday, looking forward to it. Be my 2nd half this year, and I'm looking to do another half event later in the year. Never thought I'd be happy and actively looking to run that distance, last year I did the penshaw half and that was my first time doing that distance.
Just got my number for the SAFC Foundations 10k at lambton next weekend.

Just glad the route isn't the same as the Cross country
Same here,

I was really pleased it doesn't take us up that horrible bank by the castle!

Penshaw Half marathon was warm yesterday like. Beat last year's time, could have been by more, but I kept a fellow club runner company who's back had gone as we ran/walked the last few mile.

Don't feel anywhere near as knackered as I did after last years.

No parkrun for me this week as legs were tired off dancing to Duran Duran at Friday nights concert (showing my age there). Did do a comfortable 5k on Sunday and keeping runs to 5k this week after deciding I needed an easy week built into my schedule (following great advice from this board, especially DA). My longest run to date has been 8km on a quite hilly route-seemed a long way away from a half marathon but I need to remember how comfortably 5k runs are for me now after wondering if I could finish my first parkrun 6 weeks ago.
Well done on the half marathon @Stubbs ftm. I did 5 km at 8am and it was warm then.

After a rest week and listening to my body (and tips from folks on here) I did my first run of the week Thurs. 4 miles on the treadmill and whereas last week I felt totally knackered and struggled from the start, after the same settings this week I finished thinking I could have gone in forever (well not quite forever bit you know what I mean 😀). I definitely need to slow down on week 4 of my training as suggested on here(thanks DA) Durham park run for me today. 1st at Durham and 6th parkrun overall.

Keep it up. I've done nowt since half marathon last Sunday. Got a 10k round Lambtons tomorrow, then I'll get back into my regular routine

Had a mad 2 weeks with work so struggled to get out, went out on Thursday in the heat and it was tough but felt mint, got the lambton 10km tomorrow, looking forward too that, but tempted to go for a marathon, looking at Edinburgh but it’s extortionate for rooms etc, so instead if I can get an entry going to try the Rotterdam marathon and just stay with family there, it’ll be cheaper to fly there and stay for a few days than staying in Edinburgh for the night before the marathon!

Good luck @Stubbs ftm and @squidly diddly for your 10k tomorrow. I did my 6th parkrun this morning - 3 seconds pb but I did run 60ms further than my last pb 🤣so actually a bit speedier (32m 47s today). I only started running about 2 months ago and I'm hoping for a marathon before I'm too old but that seems a long way off. Having said that running 15 miles a week would have seemed a long way off 2 months ago. Have you done a marathon before squidly. I imagine Rotterdam would be pretty flat is it? I really want to do London but having failed to get in twice before when I do apply I'll also apply for Manchester which is a similar time, so I can do that if London entry is unsuccessful.

Never done a marathon before, started running in the January lockdown last year, the Sunderland half in may was my first half marathon and it was canny, I’m doing the GnR too but I want to tick the marathon off, Rotterdam is stupidly flat that’s my thinking hahah, done the penshaw trail 10km in October and that was harder than the Sunderland half!

Also well done on the progress! It’s mad how quick you improve!
