Aiden Mcgeady

Endlessly left his full back exposed to 2 on 1 and forever trying to beat his full back 3 or 4 times before putting a cross in. Johnson tells him to stop f***ing about and beat the full back once and Charlie Wyke suddenly scores a boat load of goals. Can't deny he's probably the best player we've had over the last 5 years but an absolute liability tactically wise.

I think this is one of the most exaggerated criticisms of McGeady there ever was. He worked hard defensively and got little credit for it.

He got very ittle credit for it because he didn't do it enough.
Ah, another lover of the show pony. Fuck the rest the team as long as you see a few tricks. You my find more fulfilment with a season ticket to the circus.
Alright Phil Parkinson
😁, just prefer the all the team pulling the same way.

He definitely did his fair share of tracking back, part of the issue is we can only assume the instructions that are given, for all we know he has been told not to worry too much about that side. Anyway, he got loads of assists for us and scored plenty of goals, good luck to him.
There seems to be a lot of people on here who, because of sentimentality, think McGeady should have been given the last few minutes if the playoff Wembley game. Balderdash! You could say the same about Defoe or any other servant to the Club. It’s a results driven business and the team and the result are the most important outcome. The manager picks a team to win a game of football. Thankfully, that’s what Alex Neil did and we’ve been celebrating promotion on the back of that single mindedness. ever since. I wonder what would those same people say, had we made a substitution of Jack Clarke which prevented him going up the wing and making a wonderful cross for a goal? We’ve scored enough goals in the vital last few minutes of games this season to be aware of the need to see the games out professionally and not change for the sake of sentimentality.
You couldn't, he literally wasn't at the club.

I can’t understand why some people are so desperate to be negative about everything. In a time when we were absolutely dire to watch, McGeady was the only glimmer of hope we had and he contributed more than any other player during that time. He wasn’t perfect but he at least gave us some hope. Anyone saying he didn’t work hard clearly didn’t watch us often, he wasn’t good at defending but he always put a shift in.

Fuck off.

He's absolutely correct.

Finally moved on from league 1 once we moved on from McGeady. Funny that.
3 goals in 14 league games, didn't always start. Obviously the sending off was stupid, you could see his frustration, then his last game he was struggling almost immediately. The difference was Neil and a couple of other players who could contribute - McGeady finally had some players on his wavelength he could trust a pass to, Neil, Broadhead - in their brief overlap he anticipated McGeady better than anyone, Embleton . I think Pritchard only got properly going after McGeady's injury. He has clearly had a positive role off the pitch, as shown by his inclusion on the bench at the end of the season, there was competition for places and he could easily have been left out. He had standards that are slowly coming back to the club.

Whilst he didn’t contribute as much as previous years from the top of my head he scored and assisted in narrow games, Wigan at home, goal, mk away assist, fleetwood away, goal, without those we draw with Wigan and mk and lose at fleetwood which leaves us out of the play offs, all ifs and buts but to say we’ve gone up because he didn’t play as much is nonsense

A section of our fans absolutely loath technically talented players. They seem to think there’s a dichotomy between being able to control a ball/pick a pass and also some subjective idea of ‘trying’ that usually consists of badge patting and constantly having to make up for poor positioning/giving the ball away.

Agreed. He was a rare bright spot in amongst the league one depression. Arguably the best player in the division for 2 or 3 seasons. Certainly made wyke a lot of chances and took lots of responsibility.
