Canada

I have memories of their badge looking mint on the shiny football stickers in 86 but I couldn't tell you who they played, or name a single player in that squad.

Edit: Greg Ion sounds like someone from a science fiction film.

France, Soviet Union, and I think Czechoslovakia. Lost all three, failed to score, nearly got a goal on a crazy goalmouth scramble in the final match.

Lost 1-0 to France, held out for close to 80 minutes. A few of the players are still around Vancouver, I've met a couple over the years. A good chunk of the squad were guys who had played in the NASL before it folded.

If you subscribe to the Athletic, there's a great story about the final game of qualification - which they played in St. John's, Newfoundland in a makeshift stadium.

He's a massive Mag fan who has said openly that his ultimate ambition is to manage them lot.
Sad git then.
Another f***ing Mag! I’m telling you man the fuckers are everywhere. Can’t move for them these days
I went to the 1988 freight rover (or whatever) final at Wembley, Burnley v Wolves, because my mate's dad was from Burnley. 80,000 crowd, and within seconds the twat behind us had declared loudly, "Howay, it's just like the toon this". Bloody everywhere.

I was out last night and with it being pride month it was crazy busy.
There’s a big party at the forks today and now the wales games finished we’re heading across (hungover). It’s gonna be great atmosphere for the game later

Players refused to play and fucked over all the fans in Vancouver because they feel they are not given a fair split of the world cup money.

They cancelled practice Friday, then let everybody travel to Vancouver for the game and decided they weren't turning up 2 hours before

Bunch of jokers. I know people who traveled miles for the game and it's not cheap out there.

What's changed there then mate? Got lucky with a crop of players or has the whole setup been improved? Canada have always struggled for as long as I can remember. Population is two-thirds of England's but maybe to do with ice hockey and lacrosse being the main sports there?
Lacrosse a "main sport"???
