And you have to question our choice of overseas batter. No doubting Bedingham's pedigree in red ball cricket but his T20 pedigree is modest at best. This season aggregate 95 runs in 6 inns with SR 120. Compare that with Chris Lynn, agg 266 from 5 inns with SR 156. No criticism of Bedingham, management make the call on overseas appointments.
From memory Bedders did reasonably well last year in the T20. That was when he was (at times) opening though. I wonder whether his style and excellent timing are better suited to the powerplay
I don’t understand the use of Raine this year either. Previously he’s been as high as 3 in a pinch hitting role - now he’s well and truly down with the tail.
Echo the comments about Coughlin and Carse batting so high too. Eckersley is a much better option to come in if we’re 3/4 down inside 12 overs IMO.
For all the criticism of the Robinson signing, he seems to be settling in quite well. No real matchwinning performance as yet, but he’s done as well as anyone up there who isn’t named Clark.
I stressed the other day when folk were suggesting dropping Borthwick that we absolutely MUST have 3 spinners in the side as a minimum. Obviously the loss of Turner was huge, because him and Trev were nailed on picks and it allowed us to have the option to rotate Borthwick and Drissell (he’s shite like). Days like today should prove that 3 spinners absolutely has to be the mantra for the rest of the competition.
Still can’t believe we’ve lost twice to the absolute shower of shite that is Northants mind. As bad as the campaign has been so far, we’d be second if we’d beaten them twice.
I think ultimately with this format, everyone can and will beat everyone in the group. I feel like on reflection we’ve seen glimpses from both the batting and bowling that we can compete - for me, the selection and the captaincy has been the real failure. Time and time again the wrong decisions are being made with regards to who bowls when and for how long.
We're just never going to do anything in this competition with the team that is playing this year. Hardly any actual batsmen never mind batsmen who are suited to T20 and a very one dimensional bowling line up.
It's then compounded with poor captaincy like we saw today where Carse and Raine bowl out despite being awful and our two slower bowlers are left with overs still to bowl.
For me, any criticism should be directed towards the club management and administration rather than the players.
Timely post given what I’ve said above, I didn’t read yours prior to posting mine cause I was typing mine out but we’re clearly at a similar junction.
Slightly disagree regarding the batting though - we’ve lost a couple of games already that we probably should’ve won after scoring decent totals.
