Durham’s T20 Campaign

I’ve made no secret of my ambivalence towards this format over the years, but anything Durham related will always draw my interest to some degree and I’m actually looking forward to this.

Much of that probably has to do with the frustration that currently surrounds the red ball side, but the improvement of various clubs’ live streams has been a big advantage for anyone wanting to follow this format and it’s brilliant to be able to sit on an evening and catch up with the games.

I listened to Badger on the WMS Pod speaking about this season’s campaign, he said that the players and coaches would probably get their heads together early this week and have a meeting to discuss tactics, I think with Turner, Trev and Badger likely to feature we may see a spin heavy ‘philosophy’. Certainly on any night where it goes well we’d only need 8 overs from the seamers - which given the likelihood of Potts being lost to England and the routine test of Rushy could be the best course of action.

Could we see Carse and Coggers (who appears to be nearing fitness) as the two main quicks? With Raine added to the mix as the sixth man of a six-man rotation - as all good white ball sides operate?

As usual we’ll probably see a couple of young lads given a go too - Gibson probably, could this bring about the senior introduction of Mitch Killeen?

One things for sure, the batting seems absolutely stacked! Clark as the usual opener to go along with a number of lads who are having a good year up to now - Dickson, Bedders, we may even have Lees and Stokes to atleast begin the campaign. Turner involved too.

It’s normally at this point that I would say ‘the futures bright’, but it backfired massively in terms of the Championship side so I’m saying nowt

Hopefully we can have a decent tournament. Good Variety in bowling options and batsmen who can clear the boundary. My team would be

Clark
Dickson
Bedingham
Turner
Borthwick (floating)
Eckersley
Carse
Raine
Coughlin
Trevaskis
Rushworth

Obviously if the 3 England players are available at the start that would make us look very powerful and if Wood could play some part in the campaign.
Biggest worry would be lack of depth if we get injuries starting with Dickson.

Predict Doneathy will feature at some point.
Hope so and Gibson and wtf is happening with Campbell (is he staying with us).
Me, I'm gonna be hoping for young players/bowlers to be given a chance and gaining experience with red ball cricket in mind. Apologies to some but championship cricket is where it's at for me.

With my limited interest in T20 I'm open to being wrong about this but I always got the impression that quick bowling backfires often, and it always seemed it was spinn wears who caused us trouble (maybe that's more about our bats) but borthwick was or best bowler in white ball before leaving, despite being far from the most accurate spinner.

People like colly who could take the pace off in a variety of ways were always effective.

Absolutely. I think T20 has been the making of leg spinners up and down the country. Plus raw pace, helped by the small number of overs bowled means they can be flat out all the time.

Aye, just seems like pace on th ball is easier to dispatch anarl. Get an edge to slow bowling and it's getting caught, an edge to a ball that's 80-90mph and it's a boundary with the reduced slip cordon

We’re on Sky 19th June.

Didn’t play in any of the second xi T20 games last week, and only played in one of the four Yorkshire friendlies in the previous week. Injured?

It seems Campbell is no longer with us.

Tom Mackintosh the wicketkeeper people are bemoaning not getting a chance? 3 knocks, 10 runs total. I guess it shows were talking the T20 at least vaguely serious rather than just blooding any old youngster

He's still listed in the squad on the official website. He's doing his finals at Durham Uni, although he did unusually crop up for Hampshire against a SL Development XI the other week.
I believe he has left us. He also got injured in that Hampshire game. Even if he hasn’t left us he’s hardly likely to feature without any warm up or practice games under his belt.

Aye I know he’s gone just thought he was alright
Yeah got released, was a handy bowler in the T20s. Can't be easy being a leg spinner at the riverside but I thought he did well
