Durham’s T20 Campaign

Timely post given what I’ve said above, I didn’t read yours prior to posting mine cause I was typing mine out but we’re clearly at a similar junction.

Slightly disagree regarding the batting though - we’ve lost a couple of games already that we probably should’ve won after scoring decent totals.
You're right that we've scored some decent totals, more than I've expected with the batting line ups we've been going in with.

The way I see our batting is that we will get the odd good total because there's a few sloggers in there but we won't do it often enough to compete in the competition because we don't have the quality to rely on them often enough.

Can’t argue with that.

Simple as that

People are expecting too much

We messed up today not bowling badger

If he won’t bowl on that pitch then don’t pick him

Expecting too much? We've won 2 in 6 in the T20 and we've won 1 in 7 in the red ball game. That's not good enough.

I get what he’s saying though. The two shouldn’t be clubbed together either when simply discussing performances in this format. Granted it ties into the bigger picture of wanting rid of the HC, but purely looking at the T20:

We’ve batted generally much better this year than many would’ve expected.

We should’ve won two (at the very least) of the games we lost.

The main factors for being 2-4 as opposed to 4-2 is captaincy and selection for me. Not poor performance per se, just poor execution.

I also think that the upheaval of losing Turner and the lack of full fitness of Bedingham have contributed collectively to us having lost as many as we have.

Elite sport is a game of very fine margins and for me T20 cricket perfectly highlights those fine margins.

Overall, I’m as pissed off as anyone at how this season has gone - I was very vocal in March/April about how good of a team we have and how we should be flying towards promotion in the Championship. It’s been alarmingly reminiscent of a nightmare, truth be told, but I don’t feel like we’ve had the rub of the green in this format.

In that case we've won 2 from 6.... Absolutely shite & yes I expect better, even more so given we continue to roll out the same players when we could try some younger players. I'd be a bit more "sympathetic", if we were trying different things but we aren't. Yesterday was very poor. Decision making, selections and results are just poor.

To think the ‘younger players’ would suddenly transform this side into anything worthy of qualification would be incredibly naive.

The evidence is there, nobody from the 2’s was exactly forcing the clubs hand regarding selection based on their performances.

I was purely talking about T20, nothing else

We dont have the team to get far in this competition

have we been perfect? not at all

have we batted pretty well with the players we have available? absolutely

also, some of the smaller counties who do well in this, they have totally prioritised white ball cricket over red ball cricket, I know for a fact Durham fans would not be happy with that. Even this year we've produced another first XI England player

I am not a huge fan of Franklin BTW, but the criticism of Durham in this format is way over the top like, also people seem to forget we mostly play teams with much bigger budgets than us.

I would like to see a few in now personally.

I dont think Trev has captained that great mind, Borthwick had to bowl out yesterday

I don't expect them to be superstars but continuing to roll out the same dross just isn't working. If Drissell is getting some game time then the 3 young lads should be getting a chance. Bushnell top scored in a 2nd xi game last week. Only 2 or 3 for me are justifying their place in the first team at the moment. Rolling out the same shit and expecting a different outcome is poor management and his record speaks for itself.

Out of curiosity what is the T20 side called? Are we the Durham unique seats? Last I recall we were jets but with the Emirates sponsorship gone I guess we aren't them.

Seemed odd to brand ourselves with a lion cartoon and not become the Durham Lions but didn't that's a matter of time.

Obviously I don't care in the slightest, just wondered.
Would be mint if there was a public vote and we went with the Durham trapdoors 😁

In my head its Durham Dynamos, but I think it is Jets aye

aye whats all the lion stuff about, I never really thought about it, but has that new logo got any relevance that I've missed?

We've had a few names since the days of the dynamos like.

Afaik it's just a load of steaming sh*te. Durham dun cows makes more sense. And given our performances seems appropriate

Don't think they've got one this season... then again when that clown is on the microphone at the T20s I tend to switch off so I may have missed it.:D
