Craft Beer

For soopymarket fans, nipped into Asda today.

Vocation Naughty & Nice Chocolate Stout & Siren Twisted Breakfast Stout £3 a pop. Both new to me. (Although I could have sworn I’d had the Siren, might just not have checked it in).

However, the bargain was 2 4 packs of Thornbridge’s Cocoa Wonderland for £9. 330ml cans. £1.13 for a 6.8% can is a bargain.

Were the £3 ones not on the 4 for 3 offer?

Decent milk stout in Vaux by Pretty decent. Not too sweet.

Back to normal, and a bit flat now after last weekend. Will take some beating 😁 But hey ho. Looking forward to Vaux birthday weekend.
Platinum20 on the FCBC web shop.

20% off everything till midnight. In the taproom now, two new beers on. The first one is an absolute belter, a NEIPA with a new hop, HBC586 (not even named yet) guava mango lychee, really really decent

Is there still a restriction on the number of beers you can buy to take away?
I think it's just a 6 pack. I'll find out shortly...

I've ended up in a documentary about the brewery as well. Got myself a few drinks and some cheese as payment while they filmed us drinking it. Out in September apparently.

Sat now double parked with two of the 12s. Bringing English binge drinking to the monks.

I've had worse Wednesdays. Currently sat outside Sint Sixtus Abbey drinking Westveleteren 12.

now that, I am jealous of. What's it like? Heard so much about that

Whisper it quietly, but I think the St Bernardus abt 12 is better. I've got a couple of bottles to take home so I'll be doing a side by side taste test at some point.

The shop on site allows to buy 6x of the Blonde (8) for 20 euro, 6x of the Quad (12) plus two glasses for 27 euro, or 2x Quad (12) plus a glass for 15 euro. I opted for the latter as I couldn't be arsed carrying the bigger box back.

Walked there and back as well from Poperinge, about an 8 mile round trip and had to full on power walk it back to catch the train as the filming held us up! Nice walk though through the hop fields.

Heading over to the Dun Cow for a quick one. Owt good on?
Was in on Friday. Couple of good uns from Deya. Was a nice Pineapple pale from NB too. Didn't see any stouts of note mate. Was a couple of smooths. My Dad enjoyed the Samson. And if all else fails, Guinness.

Only stout on was Guinness. Trying a Deya Steady Rolling Man. I mean, I’d much prefer this to lager or owt, but pale ale’s are wasted on me. It’s nice, but nothing to pull me away from dark beers.
Isis always seems to have better stouts on than the Dun Cow. Not been in the Isis for a few weeks to know what's on at the moment though.

I’m heading to the Port of Call so just popped in here for a quick one. Was in the Peacock on Saturday & had a Double Maxim but it was poor to be honest. Had better Doubles elsewhere. The Italian Kitchen was great when they got it on years ago.

It’s quite refreshing actually. Wouldn’t not drink again, just wouldn’t choose it.

Not sure if it'll be the same down there but I went to Sainsburys up here (Glasgow) today and they had loads of new stuff in, a lot of it was reduced as well.

The Northern Monk stuff is OK, Faith is one of the better supermarket offerings, but the others I've tried from sainsburys lately were poor. One by Beavertown, one by Unity, one by Siren. All bland and mediocre.

I'd sooner put an order in somewhere and pay mebbes £4-5 a can for good stuff than most of the £3.50 supermarket beers.

Had a few orders from Polly's lately and the average price has been around £4 a can and much better than the bland shite supermarkets are selling
