Yeah they do, its why its generally kids near the top due to the amount of games they play , still a top score of 225 is no mean feat in any league

I merely stated that I could understand the desire from the club to bring in someone like Robinson given his track record and our injury problems.

A few people are already bemoaning the lack of power hitters, Robinson hasn’t done owt of note yet, granted, but he’s atleast done it before. Which is essentially all I was saying - at the very very least I understand their logic.

I’m not suggesting I agree with it, I’m certainly not saying they’ve been justified to this point, but the club clearly felt the need to strengthen the batting with talent and experience. I will always maintain that Durham have done more than enough in recent years by way of giving youth a chance. I fully expect this year will be no different and that ALL of the players being mentioned will have played some part of this campaign when it’s all over. I stated last week that I expect young Mitchell Killeen to make his debut and I predict that by game 10/11 we’ll have nothing to play for and the side will be almost unrecognisable to anyone unfamiliar with our Academy.

There’s a lot of pressure on all counties to make the Blast a success from a marketing point of view, if we’ve got 6/7 losses by the time the group enters its final stages there’ll be nobody at all paying at the turnstiles to come in and watch and that will be a very sad thing for everyone who cares about Durham CCC.


There’s a cracking young left handed opening batsman at Esh Winning who is worth another look ;)

It's funny that the same people who slaughter the club for poor performances are largely the same who slaughter the club for bringing in players to try and be successful.

People also seem to think that playing a team full of bairns is somehow useful to their development, conventionally forgetting the most successful period of developing youngsters was probably when we were a very strong side and players had to work really hard to get into the side and surrounded by experienced, proud and winning professionals in the dressing room.

I just "slaughter" the club for shit results to be honest. Always said it's a results business and that is how I will judge the club. 1 win in 7 this season, 1 win in 3 in the T20. It's 's 10 wins in 39 in red ball cricket under Franklin. I think it's well known on here I used the FTECB card for many years and I still believe that was a justified "excuse" but no longer.

I'm not for one second we field the academy side (that said could they do any worse??) but nobody will convince me that it's more beneficial fielding the likes of Eckersley in T20 when we have the likes of Crawshaw/Bushnell/Doneathy available. The fringe player who got a chance on Sunday didn't bat or bowl :lol::lol:

Matty Potts developed into an England international during the lowest times at this club.........
Pretty sure Crawhsaw has played at international level (I could be wrong)

I don't think it'll every not be a valid excuse. We'll never know will we, what having a stronger side available would have been. Would jack Burnham have pissed away his career if part of a successful side surrounded by quality pros? Would coughlin have stayed and developed his captaincy skills? Etc etc (don't career about those specific examples, but just for the principle of the matter)

We can't dwell on it forever, but we can certainly never forget and never forgive 😉

The results have been a shambles, in all formats so far largely, but I'm not going to criticise the club for trying to be successful. Personally I don't go to T20 or give a shit about it so couldn't really care less if they use it as a youth team and save the money for county signings but that's not realistic or financially sound.

Pretty sure you're right about crawshaw. Potts has been tremendous aye, but think that's the exception rather than the rule. And we've had to bowl him into the ground to even be as close to competitive as we've managed, we've been lucky he's stayed fit, it could easily have gone the other way and we might have wrecked a gem due to our lack of realistic alternatives.

Looking with me eyes shut again (as my mother used to tell me on a regular basis 😁)

I like Harry Crawshaw. Good prospect. Sat behind a group of his mates last season when he made his T20 debut. They had travelled up from N Yorks and were a set of characters 😁)
 
I have bought a T20 season ticket for the first time, what is parking like and is there a cost? Apologies if already mentioned in thread earlier!

No parking on site, there's a carpark across the road, you pay although it's free after a certain time so evening games I guess is fine. Although no idea if it gets rammed as I never go t20s
