Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

To be fair we didn’t bankroll the Russian war machine either. Germany are the big player in this. Their economy is a colossus and I think in the end strangling the money will end this for Putin.
At present London is where the money is although I am sure it is only a matter of time before Frankfurt becomes a larger financial centre. The EU and USA are main western players in this, at present we are a bit player, prob why threats aimed at us.
Personally I don't give a shit who sorts it out, as long as there is a peaceful end to it all.
Quite agree.

I’m happy to be a bit player.

I’d be more than willing to fight if this country was invaded, yes. Just as the Ukrainian population is. I dare say the majority would say the same.
Good for you, but for Ukraine you’ll continue to be braver keyboard warrior in your bedroom.
However, we’re not talking about that here are we? We’re talking about the combined trained, professional military might of the west sitting it out, having guaranteed the territorial integrity and security of Ukraine 28 years ago, in return for its agreement to give up its own nuclear weapons.
There was no such guarantee. “The Budapest Memorandum contains security “assurances,” not “guarantees.” Guarantees would have implied a commitment of American military force, which NATO members have. U.S. officials made clear that was not on offer. Hence, assurances.”
We’re also talking about the leader of the free world telling the assembled masses - in a major speech and before Russia had committed a single soldier - that we would be very cross and would impose sanctions/send weapons, but obviously wouldn’t actually do anything on the ground. And then - even more f***ing remarkably - that the worst of our tutting and finger wagging would be held back in the case of a “minor incursion”.
You really need to learn to read.
Let’s hope he doesn’t call a press conference any time soon, to tell China that we’ll be well pissed off and tut really loudly if they ever try anything more than a minor incursion in to Taiwan.
You do love pushing for war. You are such a brave man.

Well nuclear war is never going to happen anyway (it is the complete opposite to what Putin wants to achieve) but I would rather die or live in a decimated Britain knowing we tried to defend the free world, than live in a world governed by tyranny and oppression.

How far west through Europe would you be happy for Putin or another dictator to get through before saying enough is enough?

If Putin invaded Britain and said he would nuke us if we tried to stop him, what would you think?

Away from contrary belief, nuclear deterrent only becomes an option after a point of no return. We are nowhere near that yet.
And fighting them on the ground without nuclear involvement in the UK is possible, as has been proven in Ukraine which again demonstrates why this only needs to occur if there’s literally no other option remaining.
At this point in time, the world is fucked. Not just a little bit, massively and permanently. We are all gone.
I honestly can’t believe how some would resort to this so easily and can only assume it’s because there’s no appreciation of the outcome.

I wouldn’t get too excited about the plane from St Petersburg to the US. Rather then taking a diplomatic group for talks probably more likely it’s bringing back non essential embassy staff. I’m sure they said they were reducing numbers

If it’s US diplomats would they not travel in a US plane rather than Russian though ?

Ha. Brilliant. All of us “keyboard warriors” with no right to comment on foreign policy failures, on the basis that we aren’t military trained. Fabulous logic there.

We didn’t “guarantee” the security of Ukraine. We only “assured” it. Some assurance that turned out to be.

So you now seem to expressly accept that the US has gone out of its way not to underwrite the security and safety of Ukraine? Marvellous. We got there in the end.

Over to you Vald, help yourself. Etc etc.

Wonder if they’ll adopt the tacti of IEDs in every bin and street corner that worked so well against coalition forces in Afghanistan?

I’m sorry, I didn’t realise I was replying to a petulant child.
