Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Unless Russia call it off and send their troops home then I am afraid Russian deaths are the only way the invasion will be stopped and Ukraine returned to independence. And as regretful as it is, the more deaths and more quickly they happen the better. Obviously must people would rater no deaths and the Russians left and never interfered again.
Yeah, I get that, doesn’t mean those deaths should be celebrated tho (unless you’re Ukrainian, in which case it’s probably fair enough).

Lukashenko needs to be careful. he's not russia, he doesn't have the assets or resources russia has. they're a friendless, dirt poor country.
if any military can turn around and tell him to go fuck himself it's them. they will be more isolated than ever if he keeps supporting putin.
Let’s face it he’s only in power because of Putins support, he has to do what Putin tells him or he’s a goner

This is escalating and worrying. He's more unhinged and power hungry than Putin, just with far less resources.

If Belarus get involved does that mean it's now a "European War" that we said we didn't want to start? If they do attack Ukraine themselves will other countries get involved?

I can't see how NATO, the UN or the rest of the world could stand back any longer and watching an innocent country being attacked by two of its neighbours.

It’s very easy to forget that real people on both sides are losing their lives especially when you see military vehicles that have been destroyed but chances are the occupants were also killed.
Easy to forget too that many of those real people are just kids relatively speaking and are mandatorily serving and probably have little want to be there.

Not alive mate, unfortunately. Seems the Russians dressed some of their own soldiers in Ukrainian uniforms for whatever reason. That's the up to the minute word coming out of Ukraine. I've spent most of the last 72 hours with my Ukrainian friend and she is in constant touch with friends and family back home. Russian troops suffering some casualties which will become apparent as the picture becomes clearer.

I find some of the blood lust on this thread really uncomfortable.
It's actually quite natural...you cannot legislate for human emotion.

Obviously an escalation of arms against Ukraine by another state, no matter how rubbish a state, is not good. However, one advantage of this is that it will justify the West extending its financial sanctions to Belarus. This is important as it will stop Belarus acting as a SWIFT half-way house which would undermine kicking Russian out of Swift.

This reminds me of the old Viz cartoon characters Special Weapons and No Tactics. Arguably Putin really needed Belarus to stay out so he could still use his own money.

the first oligarch to speak out.

Billionaire Mikhail Fridman has called the war in Ukraine a “tragedy” and called on the “bloodshed” to end.

They sent a couple of hundred Chechin special forces in, they lasted two days, toasted alive. All 56 tanks evaporated. The chechin leader has said that's them out of this war. See post 10,084

Looked more like a CIA drone attack than anything else...

CIA? I think it was Turkey who gave 4 drones to Ukraine

It also gives the defenders some decent training though for when others arrive .. they will learn from it
Also time for the thousands of freedom fighters potentially arriving and enlisting in the two foreign legions that are being established + more weaponry and supplies arriving by the hour from the USA, Germany, France etc etc. Javelin Missiles that can be fired from the window of an apartment block etc

Would it matter what side they are on if they are defending their country woman and children etc. End of the day they are fighting against an invading force. The Ukraine’s left right and centre have United against a common enemy think that is number one here

I do not agree with them politically one bit but I agree their right to defend their country. If one neo nazi dies defending 10 civilians then he’s done his bit.
