Feels like we are only a few steps away from

AND NOW WE ARE GOING TO LIVE TO UKRAINE WHERE THERE'S BEEN ANOTHER BOMB, BUT WHAT SIDE HAS IT FALLEN FOR THIS TIME 'CHARLIE'......
There was a CNN crew filming Russian troops in the airport outside Kyiv. Could only have been 25 yards away and in clear sight of them, that kind of access usually requires permission.

The Generals who have to control them do. If Putin becomes a liability.....

Hit them here...

London - confiscate property linked to influencial or bent Russians.
France/Monaco - same.
Alps - same
Lobby luxury good shops to not deal with them. If Italy won't embargo them then shame the designers.
Prevent Boeing /Airbus sales & encourage them to all fly Tupolevs again if Russia is so great.

Unfortunately for Ukraine no where near enough unrest in Russia that Putin can’t easily handle right now
Right now.. agreed

How long will he be able to handle it if there is no cash or bread available

Batter them financially

I'm anti EU, but Biden has recommended not banning them too. There must be some real underlying reason we aren't aware of not to do so
Suspect it’s possibly that the Chinese have a similar system called CIPS and their concern may be that they can trace payments made using Swift but definitely won’t be able to if they use CIPS.

Better still just round them up and drop them back off home. Say goodbye to nice places.

Depends what you mean by "this". The invasion itself is down to Putin, he's officially the aggressor and breaking international law. That's clear enough and easy to see he's to blame for that.

When historians look back at these conflicts, they look deeper into the roles of the various players, internal and external political pressures which contribute to the conflict. Zelensky inherited a very delicate situation and promised a peaceful end to the civil war - I don't think he handled it well. I can't say how much difference it would have made, none of us can if we're being honest, but he's done as much sabre rattling as anyone here and finds himself fighting off an invasion force.
So what should he have done differently? Considering he has a madman on his doorstep who has previously invaded and despite what Putin says dreams of rebuilding the ussr.

Had any of us heard of SWIFT before this let alone understand it
Yes, many a time when you make an international transaction. Its a very common thing and I think it would be harmful to many Russians. One of the drivers for Putin is the potential of unrest at home. He is worried about Ukraine being a democracy on his doorstep and Russian asking the obvious question of why can't they have democracy. There have already been mass demonstrations against Putin in Moscow. If the Russian people see their lives being made harder or high Russian troop casualties then he will worry about the people turning. He knows change can come quickly in Russia. Reading more about it one of the worries if they are denied SWIFT is that they may use a Chinese alternative.
It's not the EU but certain EU countries, mainly Italy & Germany.
No, I get that and that was my point. At times like these and also when vaccines becaime available you can see some drawbacks with the EU and their inability to make swift decisions.
