Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

We need to cripple the Russian economy. Not a drip, drip of sanctions. 100% all out, cut them off from the civilised world.
Fck them where it hurts.
I am torn on this. I have a natural feeling to say the same as you, make the life of Russia difficult to put pressure on Putin from within. But history shows that a country made to go through something like that does not come out of it well. As well as Ukraine/the west winning this war against Russia, we need the Russian people to be on board with us afterwards. 'winning the hearts and minds' (to use a trashy american phrase) of the average Russian could go a long way to helping create peace for many years after this current war.

Anyone heading that way on their holidays this year?
I have to admit that my geography of the area isn’t great but when I looked I was surprised how many popular U.K. destinations are very close geographically to Ukraine.
I bet the travel industry loves Putine as much as they love covid
I'm going to Krakow at Easter and was looking at Talin in August.

How would we do that?
Whilst innocents are dying in Ukraine

Fair comment mate. The reasons listed by the EU are very weak - keep it in their back pocket for later but I accept that I am way off having any real knowledge on this. That some of the EU leaders - Dutch, Irish etc. are desperate for this to happen suggests it is one of the key sanctions that could cause immediate hurt to the Russians.
Had any of us heard of SWIFT before this let alone understand it

The Russian people have very little say in who runs their country. They never have.

I've got Turkey booked for April. Got the remaining balance to pay today, but unsure what to do now.
Turkey will be fine. People have been holidaying closer to Syria than Ukraine for years. Infact if you're going to the Antalya area it might be quieter as there won't be any Russian tourists.
