Kinda doesn't have a choice.

Let's look at the neighbouring countries.

Belarus is pro-USSR
Azerbaijan is pro-USSR
Georgia is pro-USSR
Kazakhstan is pro-USSR
Ukraine is work in progress
Lithuania is NATO
Estonia is NATO
Latvia is NATO
Poland is NATO

Moldova is ... with nobody, they'll be next to but the border actually ends there.
Naive.

i dont think @Frijj realises that NATO is not a peacekeeping institution, its a defensive, mutual assistance pact

there nothing in the NATO treaty that would even begin to cover the idea of NATO deploying forces into Ukraine

there’s a canny few on here who don’t understand that

Russia have nothing to gain from a nuclear war. They rely solely on income from oil and gas and no one is buying any if countries are nuked to oblivion.

As much as I was 100% certain Putin would invade all of Ukraine, I don’t think he would go nuclear. What’s there to gain by it?
Sadly I think he has lost the plot. If he is going down he takes all with him.

It’s a very loose comparison. Struggling to find a justifiable reason to invade a sovereign country at the moment.
Of course it’s not the same. But let’s not pretend we are some beacon of democracy right now. Because we aren’t. And it’s a slippery slope

The electoral commission came out the other day and effectively highlighted their independence was at risk

That’s history. Where are the facts now that he wants to invade other countries? It’s blatantly obvious why he wants Ukraine.
Where are the facts that he won’t? If we don’t make a show of force now then we’re showing him we won’t do anything if he does it again in a peace meal manner.

We’ve been a lot more democratic than a lot of countries around the world during the pandemic. We’ve been aiming to get back to normal throughout.

More or less, it’s the sensible thing to do. Thing is, Ukraine is a young nation, Russia has been at war with them for years but because it wasn’t a full scale invasion we hear little about it. During those years was the time to act if the west wanted to. Now it’s gone to a full scale invasion there’s outcry, if the west get involved now there would be carnage.

In essence, this is nothing but a skirmish between Russia and Ukraine, they’ve just got big guns to play with this time. What’s the worst that can happen when Ukraine falls, it goes back to where it was pre 2014 and the west start again with negotiations.
Totally agree, we want no part of this. Just had to spend 2 year in the house because of covid. Fuck spending the next eternity in here because of radiation

No it's not. Have a think what u saying. Risk nuclear war? No thanks. Troops won't be going in under any circumstances.

So what then? What if Putin invades another country, then another, then another? Do we let Putin get away with whatever he wants, to avoid nuclear war?

If Putin was to invade the UK would you say we shouldn’t retaliate because it might risk nuclear war?

Your link to the pandemic has fuck all to do with democracy. You clearly don’t understand the word
