Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Putin getting the Ukraine does not make the threat to us greater than it already is. It's not making him stronger.
I answered the intervention question in my last post. When NATO decide it's time, then it's time.
Exactly. People go on about Russian propaganda….stuff they read from western propaganda.

We should have expedited their membership.

If NATO forces had already been in there's no way he would have attacked, IMO.

I'm with @Frijj on this one. We told Ukraine to give up nukes and we'd protect them. And now we haven't.

It's nuts.
I agree with you but we didn't have NATO forces there and he has attacked.

I wouldn't trust Putin not to push the button. So unless the stakes are higher I think we will play the long game and freeze Russia out until it makes sense to attack.

Corbyn and his cabal are not happy with NATO's 'eastward expansion'

Apparently the UK is 'indicating disdain for Russian concerns'

From 'Stop The War' press release today :

...Instead, the British government has sent arms to Ukraine and deployed further troops to Eastern Europe, moves which serve no purpose other than inflaming tensions and indicating disdain for Russian concerns.

It has also declared that Ukraine has a “sovereign right” to join NATO, when no such right exists to join it or any other military alliance.

Britain needs to change its policy, and start working for peace, not confrontation.

Stop the War believes that Russia and Ukraine should reach a diplomatic settlement of the tensions between them, on the basis of the Minsk-2 agreement already signed by both states.

It believes NATO should call a halt to its eastward expansion and commit to a new security deal for Europe which meets the needs of all states and peoples.

We refute the idea that NATO is a defensive alliance, and believe its record in Afghanistan, Yugoslavia and Libya over the last generation, not to mention the US-British attack on Iraq, clearly proves otherwise.

We support all efforts to reach new arms control agreements in Europe and to move towards nuclear disarmament across the continent.

We urge the entire anti-war movement to unite on the basis of challenging the British government’s aggressive posturing and direct its campaigning to that end above all.

How f***ing predicable

I suppose they're still denying that Putin launched an attack on this country using chemical and biological weapons?

Or all of his military invasions up to this point were because of the stance of NATO?

We're facing a maniac who is no better than Hitler or Stalin

While I agree with the sentiment the reality is that Putin sees himself as the successor of Lenin and no amount of nice words will stop him. Mental.

I think they probably should have accelerated the membership question for Ukraine and should do the same now for Finland.

Alternative is we just let Putin walk through sovereign countries
Hmm,It's easy for us all to say "shoulda, woulda, coulda"....

I wonder what would have happened if the Americans had put troops in a month ago. A lot of troops! Biden has made it clear he won't put troops in now as American troops shooting at Russian could be the start of WW3. W ould Russia have thought twice if there were American troops defending those cities they are attacking?
Who knows?

Haven't seen the buildup but this shows a bit more of aftermath as you see the turret in that pic at the end of this video. I hope it's OK given that it's blurred and I don't get a warning.

Tweet says "Ukrainian Army struck Russian forces in an area close to Kharkov. 1 tank and many armored vehicles were destroyed."

Body on the ground is so sad.

Inevitable and depressing. In nuclear times it seems those that are less inclined to care about ordinary people dying will win!
That's always been the case, when it comes to life, as the pandemic has proven, it's only when it affects the rich when action is taken, the rest of the time, no matter what your politics are, the normal people are on your own.

Firstly we don’t know if he will invade another country, there’s no reason why he would. Secondly, if nato say nothing then it’s not particularly a great sign. This way, it’s them saving face, accepting the reality that Ukraine is going back to Russia and it also saves the rest of the woods being drawn into a war where there really is no winners…nuclear. You do understand that don’t you? Any involvement or escalation from the west and it’s highly likely Russia will escalate as well.
Class mate, nowt to worry about then.

Freeze them out economically until they either cease to be able to operate as a state or the population turns on them, or both.

All hopes of that rest on the ukraine conflict becoming drawn out enough to allow it to happen.

Would take a while.
