Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

They're all utterly hopeless when it comes to dealing with Putin. Every single one of them are a puppet on a string, I've always said that. People might not like Putin but he's absolutely rock solid, no pissing about with him.
Agreed, we want nothing to do with sending people over there. He would obliterate the UK and then even if he was in bother he`d just bring China in to help him. Need to steer well clear of this one.

Baffled that I’ve woken up to this. For him to declare an invasion when the Russian people are against it and Ukraine are certainly no pushovers just seems a really really stupid move.

He probably thought he’d have took Ukraine ‘peacefully’ with no force required. He’s massively underestimated Ukraine here.

That’s a lot of Russians losing a lot of money.

Especially when assets abroad are now likely to be sanctioned the fuck out of

I saw Ben Wallace pretty much said that. Seems to think this could end Putin. (Fingers crossed)

From what I have heard is that Russians are shocked. I think many have got used to Putin & never believed he'd go this far.
They are embarrassed & shocked from what I have heard 2nd hand. But that is a small sample. Suspect there will be many who are loving this.

I think this will be over in a military sense in 5 mins.

Hopefully we don't go after the general public in Russia as they have absolutely no say in what's happening. Get every country in Europe and hopefully the Middle East to agree to revoke all visas for prominent Russians, freeze Bank accounts and send them back to Russia. I'm sure they'll start kicking up a fuss if they have to spend summer is St Petersburg or Moscow and not in Cyprus or London with billions in frozen Bank accounts. Don't give them prior notice like what we have done with the current sanctions either, just instant freeze and revoke, I know it'll be harsh on some but I'd rather we punish the 1% over the 99% who have absolutely no say in what's happening.

They wont, the Russian people aren’t the enemy

Putin is

Apparently it wouldn’t of happened had he been in power, according to him
Nah because Trump would have been the first to take actions and strike !

I said when first collectively Trump ( not that senile Biden is much of an improvement ), Johnson and Putin were in power that the world was in a state of danger that it hadn't been in in my 37 years lifetime and god knows how it would play out but this is no surprise

I find it really sad ( capitalism and whatever 'ism' system debate aside ) that a really rich mad man in charge of the worlds biggest and one of the richest countries threaten war and the worlds response is sanctions of a monetary sense in moves that a) would minimally effect Putin and b) be the effect of pocket change and issues that wouldn't have any Russian lose a minutes worth of sleep as a deterrent for war !

I'm not saying the only response from the get go should have been war but the worlds in a proper low state right now all round aint it !

Some posts are simply not worthy of proper debate, particularly when from posters in such a perpetual state of sympathy mining.

Silly insults and claims I support Russia because I am Cuban are not debate. Russia is not even a communist country for 30 years! Ukraine was also a communist country at the same time.

As for sympathy, I just report on the truths of my situation. He who doesn't like it can swallow it.

The west has screwed this up, Putin has used the Hitler play book to perfection.

Get rid of anyone inside Russia that could stand up to him, test the water in the the years before today to see how the west reacts, attack another country under the pretence of "helping the Russian speaking folk, get a puppet state to fight alongside him. He has well and truly put the ball in our court with either we Help the Ukraine or we have to back down, he is banking on us backing down.

Hitler said he was amazed at how easy time and time again, we give him what he wanted, couldn't believe we didn't intervene, i think we have seen exactly the same with Putin, if we had showed some balls and NATO threated a hard response no way he would have attacked all of Ukraine, like its seems he has now, he may have tested the waters by helping the repels, but this is out there now, you cant disguise what this is. I think thats why we had a couple of days of him seeing our next move, moving a few troops into rebel controlled land, testing our responses all the time, which was to sanction a couple of people, that give him the green light.

No idea what we should do now, my heart says NATO needs to defend Ukraine to nip this in the bud now, my head cant get around what this could mean, is he crazy enough to use nukes? The time to stop this was weeks ago before shots were fired, gutted for the poor people of Ukraine, my heart goes out to them.

The parallels are stark and frightening. We are currently at the 'Sudetenland' stage. Exactly the same rhetoric.

Everything he's done since 2008 has emboldened him - including chemical attacks on the British mainland - and every Western country has pussyfooted around him

I've heard commentators from both sides telling us not to compare him to Hitler

He's the Hitler of the 21st century

The sorts of Russians who love this will also be the sorts of little Englanders who wanted Brexit, I realise this is a distraction from the main thread but this is exactly where nationalism gets you.

He has been preparing for this for a while, he has been building up a lot of gold reserves to protect his county from wild swings. He has been planning for war for a long time.

I think we need to to go in hard and exercise all sanction's now.
