We in the west are desperate to stir up trouble over Ukraine, as we are shit scared one of the most important countries in the old Soviet Union, get all chummy with Russia again. So what if Russia has deployed troops on the Russian side of the Ukraine border, that is not a crime, the Yanks do it all the time. they have military bases all over the world, encircling countries like Russia and China. They have just built a naval base in Australia, what the fook for? Do China see that as a declaration of war? what if the Russians built a naval base in Cork? that would piss us off, but why not? when we build bases in other countries across the globe.

The Russians could have bolstered their own defences without invading other countries, that's just dickish behaviour, let alone before considering what Stalin did to his own people I am sure you are going to entertain us all by also explaining that the slaughter of Polish officers around that time was also required for Russian security?

Refreshing post. I got shot down for this line of thinking...had a Russian gf, you have to know their mentality to understand them. The end of the cold war screwed everything, and most have been worse off since, even the middle classes with their government jobs. She was hot BTW.

The Soviets did nothing in Spain other than murder Trotskyists on Stalin's orders. Plenty of documented material on this.

They did want an alliance with UK and France but both were suspicious of Soviet motives. Arguably a mistake by the West but the Soviet annexation of the Baltic states and Winter war with Finland highlighted the Soviet Union as pure aggressors.

Absolutely not my point. Canada & USA are better example. If, in 70s that Canada became aligned with the USSR at the time then yes I think USA would have gone in.

They went into Vietnam for a similar reason. To have that on their border with a simikarly cultured nation would have been unthinkable.
