The world needs to make it clear it’s got no animosity towards the Russian people…….the current quarrel is with the current government. As always the innocent people of all countries are overlook in this global power struggle

This will be the opposite message the Russian government will be telling the people

If this conflict spirals into a war it will be because of post-soviet imperialism. Ideologically it failed before ergo why former soviet republics now embrace democracy

I think Crimea might well be the sticking point in the negotiations, Liz Truss alluded do it when accusing Russia of breaking the Belgrade Memorandum.

Although Russia claims it acted within the scope of the agreement, I think it's pretty much accepted that it did not. The problem for the UK and US, the two main parties involved, is that in the eyes of Russia they lost any authority to insist that international treaties and UN resolutions are honoured when they invaded Iraq in 2004 on top of NATO occupation of Afghanistan.

The Crimea annexation is certainly at the heart of Ukraine-Russia relations but the dominant narrative has been the confrontation between US and Russia on NATO expansion. This goes back to the end of the cold war and flared up in a 2007 speech by Putin which enraged Washington because it demanded a re-framing of the US world view.

Yep. It's the nature of the man. He has run his existence on being a strongman nationalist. The equivalent would be Bozo sending the troops out to regain our Empire. Totally wrong.
But as we have said, I don't think his goal is to invade Ukraine. He is testing the West. Maybe his goal is something else, maybe he is just attempting to be a puppet master and spread discord 🤷‍♂️

The thing is, even nasty bastards relent later in life, but this excuse for a human being seems hell bent on going out on a moral low. Small man syndrome in overdrive.
 
Had a coffee this morning at the local shop and a Russian lady who I know joined me. Obviously the conversation detoured to the conflict and basically this is what she said...

Russia will not invade, why would they.

The UK and the USA want control of Ukraine so they can get closer to Russia to try and take it over.

There are no troops surrounding Russia, it's all fake news.

The west are all scavengers and want to rule the world.

It was impossible to give my view because she ranted non stop for near on 15 minutes.

It was quite a eye opener, I can tell you.

She's smoking hot mind, but mad as a box of frogs.

They're fanatics. 77 percent of them voted for Putin (if you believe the figures) which must tell you something about the attractiveness of his nationalist narrative. If NATO stands down and appeases him, things will only get worse.

As a side she also blamed America for the Russian girl who was found to have dodgy substances in her system last week at the winter Olympics!!

Her paranoia was off the scale.

She has offered to make me dinner if Russia invade within the next 7 days.

I think there's along game here & it includes Belarus. I don't think Russian troops will ever leave & that there'll be the creation of a Greater Russia.

I can see Belarus added with eg. A rigged vote saying 99.9% yes & obviously the grab of east Ukraine. Then Kazakhstan as well down the line. Easy enough to do that I think as nobody would care.

I think there'll also be a destabilisation of NATO & down the line, more of these crises just to chip away at it.
 
What a load of shite being posted on this thread. What is true, is its about domination, but not by Russia but the West. The world was safer when there were 2 super powers of equal strength. Once the USSR was disbanded. the world has never been more dangerous with the Yanks ruling the roost. Obviously the re-emergence of Russia and the economic power of China spooks them, and they are looking for any excuse to either undermine them or go to war with them.

America in comparison to Russia has invaded or fought in hundreds of countries throughout its history, Britain is not far behind. If it wasn't for the Russian sacrifice, who lost more people than all the other allies put together, we would've lost WW2. Its the Yanks not the Russians who are the enemy of mankind. We in the west are desperate to stir up trouble over Ukraine, as we are shit scared one of the most important countries in the old Soviet Union, get all chummy with Russia again. So what if Russia has deployed troops on the Russian side of the Ukraine border, that is not a crime, the Yanks do it all the time. they have military bases all over the world, encircling countries like Russia and China. They have just built a naval base in Australia, what the fook for? Do China see that as a declaration of war? what if the Russians built a naval base in Cork? that would piss us off, but why not? when we build bases in other countries across the globe.
