Sam Fender

I've still never heard one of his songs all the ways through and couldn't tell you what they're called. Heard snippets on ads for his stuff on youtube and certainly sounds canny enough if not a little Sterephonicsesque.
Cant talk to you is a good one - very much about his relationship with his dad as he was growing up - struck a chord with me. 17 going under is another good one.

He is only getting bigger. Big article in New York Times recently. He has the ability to be massive over there. Got that sentimental blue collar Springsteen vibe.
He's a real talent- great songwriter- distinctive voice- plays a bit- funny- ambitious. I like his stuff.
His sax player, Johnny Davis, was mentored by Blue Lou Morini, who you will know from both the Blues Brothers films. When Fender played in New York, Johnny was busy as a side-man on tour, so Blue Lou depped for him at the gig.
Check out The Borders at 13.30.
With those kind of connections and credentials and, as you point out, that blue-collar vibe, I reckon he's got a future in the US and probably worldwide. It's just a pity he's a died-in-the wool Mag from North Shields.

Watched his Alan Hull doc at the weekend, canny programme all in all
"he was my musical hero" , "i only know them for the singles "

The Geordie Springsteen

I have listened to his stuff a lot recently and I have changed my mind about him. Good songs, good lyrics, little pretence.

I'm not bothered where he is from.

I like him.
