I read a piece from an old Norwich forum which stated Alex Neil is from the same pit village as Bill Shankly. He,of course, was a manager sacked by clubs until he reached Liverpool.
Quite an interesting piece in the penultimate paragraph of this link -

I'm fairly sure Glenbuck was reclaimed by moorland before Alex Neil was born. I know he looks like he might have been in the same year at school as Bill Shankly but he's younger than me.

Keane was the only realistic choice who would of lifted the whole club...fans and players.
He clearly wanted the job but its obvious that Speakman and Madrox tried to screw him over.
How come the mags get the world's richest owners and will go on to establish themselves as a top team we get Donald etc and languish leagues below with nothing to look forward too except Akex f***ing Neil!
We are going to lose a generation or more of supporters
I couldn't give a shiny shit what the mags do. As far as Roy Keane is concerned he hasn't managed for years and failed at Ipswich you are basing your theory on what happened here 14 years ago man

Jesus wept, you sound like you’re going to start to cry. Get a grip ffs!

Downgrade? This bloke got Norwich promoted to the premier league. Johnson hasn’t even got a promotion on his record ffs.
Norwich spend season after season bouncing between the leagues, stick Alan Partridge in there and he’d get them promoted, it’s what Norwich do!

Righto. I don’t want him to fail, I just find it amazing people are happy about it when literally nee one wanted him before he was all but confirmed. It happens all the time.
Of those mentioned prior to Keanes hat gannin in the ring Neil was my choice. I then flipped to Keane as I thought the buzz would help us gannin into the play offs. If it’s not to be Keane then I’m back in the Neil camp.
SAFC won’t be poaching employed managers for a while so of the dole lads he’s imho as good as we can expect. Mind I was ower the moon when McMenemy, Poyet, Allardyce, O’Neil and Moyes were announced so my opinions worth shite.

And my disappointment is that all of these shortfalls regarding motivation and personality are there in another candidate.
Which one? Can’t be the one who failed to motivate Ipswich, surely?

Who took 14 games at the start of his first full season in charge to record their first win. Who finished a mighty 15th that season. Whose Ipswich team was 21st when he was sacked the following season.

The one who got a tune out of Sunderland – admittedly – for a single season before he lost the plot. Again. For about the millionth time in his career. Who lost 7-1 at Everton. Whose final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat to Bolton (two results that are positively Johnsonian!).

The one who fell out with Niall Quinn. Niall
Quinn!

That one? Or are you thinking of someone else?

What an underwhelming appointment and what a state we find ourselves in.
Fans are gunna be on his case from the start and fans will be arguing with each other etc.
Meanwhile the clueless idiots in charge I.e Donald, KLD, Speakman should all just f@ck off
You've well nailed your colours to the mast toneet marra. Will you be happy if he proves you wrong?

What I normally do is see what their former club supporters have got to say about them. In the main both Norwich and Preston fans have got nothing but good things to say about him.

Compare that to Lee Johnson before he came here.
