I read a piece from an old Norwich forum which stated Alex Neil is from the same pit village as Bill Shankly. He,of course, was a manager sacked by clubs until he reached Liverpool.
Quite an interesting piece in the penultimate paragraph of this link -
Shankly resigned at all of his clubs. Once citing homesickness, once to retire and three times to move up in the world as his boards wadnt invest.

He was sacked at Norwich for not doing as he was told. Fergie backed him in it anarl.
Assuming he isn't just desperate for another gig, any gig and has learned his lesson about talking back to your betters. With the shower of s**** running our club, this appointment has sent out the message we've learned nothing from our past mistakes and if you wanted a bounce to the summer Neil isn't going to give you that.

Theres one.

Go on twitter or the PNE forums and youll struggle to find a bad word said about him.

Odd ey.
Oh aye, forums are always representative of the fans, I mean look at this place!
All I know is what I’ve seen - I’ve got a season ticket in north end as my teenage son is obsessed (I know, I’ve tried!) and that’s our ‘dad and lad’ time - so I’ve watched Neils team week in week out.
I Hope I’m wrong - god I really hope I am - but from what I know of his style he’s absolutely the wrong bloke for our job.
Regardless, I’ll get behind him. I’ve no problem with him, or Keane, or anyone outside of the directors box.
This us a quote from a Preston fan on that message board.. says it all. Here it is
- I’ll be very interested to see how he does. I really don’t think he’s a great fit for Sunderland, personally. If he found the ownership here frustrating then he’s about to experience something on another level entirely! I also think his obsession with tactics - and his tendency to massively over complicate the game - will be more problematic in League 1 than it was at Championship level. And then his demeanour on the touchline, especially his criticism of players, could damage confidence which is already fragile. His personality isn’t going to give much of a lift to the club either. Of course, he may have learned his lessons from his time here and if Sunderland get the ‘early’ version of Alex Neil then it could yet work. We’ll see soon enough but I just have a feeling his approach to the game is already outdated and there are very good reasons why he’s not landed another gig at this level.
this 100%

Irrespective: if he gets the job he gets my support.

This time yesterday there was the potential for hope. If a bottom half league 1 side appointed Alex Neil nobody would bat an eye lid. We needed someone to set standards and the drag the whole club up. Today we have a man who spent his career playing for airdrie, Mansfield and Hamilton.
Who did Mourinho play for?

I’m not in charge of appointing a manager, and if i was, I wouldn’t have said we have applications from all over the world and then appoint someone who they could have had weeks / months ago if they thought he was much better than what we had.
Spot on. There’s a bit of venn diagram anger action gannin on tonight marra. All are angry with the delay, some are angry with the “appointment” and some with both. Mebbes vent diagram wad be a better term.

What an underwhelming appointment and what a state we find ourselves in.
Fans are gunna be on his case from the start and fans will be arguing with each other etc.
Meanwhile the clueless idiots in charge I.e Donald, KLD, Speakman should all just f@ck off

Canny cop out. Applicants all over the world may have included junior managers from African amateur football and FIFA 22 wannabes. It was an I’ll judged remark I agree. Neil may not be an exciting appointment but may well have been the best qualified and experienced candidate because none of us know (aside from Keane) who any of the other candidates were.

Aside from that everyone knows you weren’t involved but surely that doesn’t mean you can’t have an opinion who would be a decent appointment, better than Neil.

"congrats you've won a car...... Well actually you've won a car keyring but at least you never won the alternative prize of a punch in the face"
