SMB Tennis thread

it was the fans he was annoyed with, quite a sad press conference, he had a little bit of a point. He also had the us crowd heavily in favour of djokovic being an absolute disgrace to him.

well its up to him to win the fans over, he should just let his tennis do the talking really

'booing' in response to the fans, not 'Boring'

I'm not saying I know for sure, but numerous news outlets are reporting it as "boring" - Sports Bible, Sydney Herald, Yahoo Sports.

I'm no expert lip reader but it looked liked boring and I didn't hear any booing when Hrdlicka was speaking.

He was saying booing in reference to the fans being 'great' not to the speech

Bring booed between serves, whistled, booed when he walked out, shouted at when trying to serve in the Us Open final...
It's not about winning the fans over, it's about the fans being tolerant of the opponent.

They wont be very tolerant if the player is having a go at them

so he needs to win them over
No, they just need to not boo and let him play tennis. If he winds them up then fair game, but he never got a chance Sunday or at the US Open Final (which was full of Djokovic fans wanting him to get the calendar slam - forever grateful to Meddy for that)

He had been winding them up all tournament, my point is he brought it on himself

I get that, in theory. But he didn't directly make reference to the comment in his presser (from what I've seen). I'm saying I don't know for sure what he said, you seem pretty positive you do, going against what numerous news outlets are reporting 🤷‍♂️

One thing we can agree on, I was at the 2012 US Open final surrounded by Serbs, the satisfaction at seeing those arrogant twats slink off with their hero was immense 😅

Its his 'dream story' he told at the start of the presser, saying hed play moscow over france or wimbledon...didnt take questions on it, was an obvious sadness over his fan treatment
Honestly just wish Federer had got an ace when he needed it in 19....cheering on Rafa to beat Novak in the slam race

Fair enough, from that angle looks like he was saying 'booing'.

Still not sure why news agencies were reporting 'boring', it's their job to get it right, not mine 🤣

Sat watching Juan Martin del Potro blubbing his eyes out as he's about to serve for probably the last time in his career as a pro tennis player :( if ever proof was needed that the amount of Slam titles you win will never decide your legend or how much ability a player has it's del Potro. Probably my second favourite player of all time behind Sir Muzz.

The only player in history who could get almost get a 50:50 split of crowd support against Roger Federer  a proper legend.

The bloke beat Djokovic in consecutive olympics denying him a medal, also played his role (i.e to lose) in helping Federer win the French slam. So will always be grateful to him for those memories (dont even begruduge him the 09 US Win despite beating Federer)
Played one of the best matches ive ever seen against Rafa in Wimbledon 2018 (who then played an even better one against Djokovic next round)
US open winner (& runner up)
olympic Bronze Medalist
And yet a career that will always be affixed with a *if not for injuries, what it could have been*
+ olympic silver medal
Davis cup winner
Masters winner (in an epic against Federer)
