Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Amazing how this has gone from a laughable prospect before Christmas, to posturing, to now an almost inevitability.

A lot of military experts and journalists, including ones on the ground, now seem to think it’s just a matter of time and one of the papers headlines tomorrow is that we are sending troops to Ukraine.

Hopefully we stay well out of it

This will have a domino effect spread out over the next 10 years.
Lots of countries will crumble and just hand themselves over, just like WW 2
We’re on a very fine line here. If we move too soon we could be accused of provoking it, if we sit back and don’t act then we could be seen as weak.

It also gives them the option of turning off the gas to Ukraine, effectively crippling them, without upsetting their more lucrative Western European markets by disrupting supplies.

They have a lot of Europe over the proverbial barrel, which is why we should have been looking to get off the reliance on fossil fuels decades earlier.

It's already been announced he's sending troops over to help the Ukrainians operate the anti tank weaponry we're selling them.

However, there won't be any tanks rolling into Donbass. In the unlikely event the hawks get their way and create a war, the Russian missiles are aimed at Kiev.
 
The world will do fuck all while Russia continues to take back those countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union and still have sympathisers within those countries.
China can do the same

I have no doubt about how powerful Russia are but this is not some rag tag bunch of mujahideen they will be up against. How will Russians react when a shit tonne of their kids come home in bags? It was bad enough in Chechnya and their forces are not even remotely comparable to the Ukrainian army.

I watched another programme about the damn near Sevastopol. That’s enough to cause a war on its own and will be Russias first target no doubt. I still don’t believe they’ll ever attack Kiev with the intentions of over running it mind, I think they’ll occupy most of the east though and solidify all the areas where the militia are fighting the Ukrainians.

Just have to wait and see if Vlad’s balls are as big as he likes to make out. I suspect they are not and I hope to f***ing god I’m right.

Has Putin ever done anything to suggest he has the balls to start a war like this?

Apart from Sanctions which Putin seems to accept as just an occupational hazard. He has called the West's bluff before and he will continue to do so. Putin has proven to himself that he is the strong man and there is no reason to believe he will not continue to do what he likes.
 
There is not a chance NATO will be coordinated enough to stop anything Putin wanted to do. I think mainland western Europe is a very vulnerable target if Putin wanted to go full mental. The Russians want a buffer between their borders and what they see as a threat. they've been bashed a few time in the last couple of hundred years.

Actually, it would be interesting if anyone on here has knowledge of military tactics to see what scenarios would be possible.

Eastern Ukraine will be their buffer. Gives them full control in the Black Sea.

I think Zmiinyo island will be where it starts. That gives Ukrainian extra 20m of territorial waters(I think it’s 20) and will be invaded instantly you would have thought. They already have way more naval vessels(lots of landing vessels) than usual in that area so surely it is one of, if not, their main target to start a war.

Odessa > Poltava > Shostka would be the most natural line of advance in mainland Ukraine. Possibly even as Far East as Chernihiv.

This is f***ing mental when you read a bit more. Is it real or more theatre?

I know fuck all really, those are just my own musings after what I’ve read or watched.

I just assume everything will be fine because it always has but it doesn't take much to tilt a balance and for things to collapse.
