If you see a 32 year old right back on a 4 year contract with a near £200k a week as a good signing then yeah cracking.

In comparison Everton have just signed a young right back from Rangers who is highly rated across Europe for less than half the mags will pay for Trippier.
He's 31 FFS why has he aged since this thread started 🤣

With a move to Man Utd and further trophies that bolstered an already successful career. The fact he was shite for us, was because we were shite. Not him. He still acted a prick about it.

He was a bit part player and the only reason he left you lot was relegation.

Trippier is a decent player, but he isn’t worth the money you’ve paid. A right back as your highest paid player. Is that really justifiable?

If you genuinely believe that he's leaving Madrid for Newcastle for any other reason than money, you're off your chebs mate
He wants to be back in England he's made that abundabtly clear. That's the driving factor here. The money will obviously help but like has already been mentioned, why do Sunderland fans care about our wage budget FFS 🤣

For now.

Same reason Mark Hughes saw the initial settling in period at Man City. There is only so much of a vision you can paint initially.
So Eddie Howe is another stop gap?

Hughes was manager when their takeover happened, like Steve Bruce, then Hughes was sacked, like Steve Bruce. Face it, Howe is a long term appointment not a stop gap.

If they want to spend that kind of money on wages etc. that’s their business, we all know football has gone mad. On a purely footballing basis, good player, good signing.

I find it slightly ironic asking why we care about wages when you’re on our forum.

If you don’t care what we think don’t bother posting on here.

You were on here not long back telling us 'you aren't sure you'd spend big money'.

Now you're crowing about 'settling in periods' before big splurges. You talk complete cobblers man. Fake as hell

He's obviously a good player and will improve them (unfortunately).
Still hope he scores the own goal to relegate them, then is their jack Rodwell in the championship, but it's a stretch to make out signing an England International, from one of Europe's top teams for £12 million is a bad signing.

Depends on him. Does he care enough to pull his finger out?

Taking such a huge step down for some extra cash doesn’t exactly scream “up for a scrap”.

Not that simple though, Everton said that and they're now crippled by ffp tbf.

It was also like the best part of a decade ago FFS.
It's not the going rate for a fullback. I think he is a good player and will help you in the next 6 months, but the deal financially (Not just this one but future ones of this kind) could nip you on the arse for the next few seasons , and if you went down with players on them wages then it can damage anyone (IF FFP actually is used) Rodwell fucked us.

When everyone said the Mags are the richest club in the world (They meant the owners not the club itself) i did have a little panic but bringing in Eddie Howe , our under 23 coach from league 1 and giving a 4 year deal to a good but old fullback hasn't sent shock waves through the world of football as expected. That's all i'm saying. Expect every signing to rinse you after that contract. If it's an open cheque book and rules swerved fine for you lot, but if not then it's a gamble

12m isn't big money. I'm actually arguing its value for money FFS

Not many though.

Trippier had bad injuries earlier in his career.

He’s done the lot now. Played in the CL, won La Liga, played in a final for England.

Surely his career is only on one trajectory now. He’s secured his final payday, I doubt his motivation will be the same.

Remember when they signed Michael Owen? How did that end?
Fair enough, I still think it’s a good signing.

I'm not sayng trippier, I'm talking about when I said I'm not convinced you have 'money to burn'. You countered it by comparing it to how man city started.

You play the good guy for likes and sound your life on here. Bizarre

I don't get your point 🤷🏻 the link to Man City was because people are talking about us wasting and spending all this money. I drew the parallel because that's what you lot were doing.

I can't see us spending 80m here and 90m here and so far, with a well thought out signing for good value, I'd be right. Staveley said herself it would be a process that took time.
