He’s a good player but it’s a lot of money.

It also sets a precedent for other potential signings and will most likely piss of the existing squad.

To be fair, he was already 4th choice at RB for England.

He’s done the “professional” thing. He’s secured one last over the odds pay day. He’s got no further moves to play for. The money is now in the bank.

It’ll be interesting to see how hard he’s willing to work now. God knows he’s going to have to work hard.

You haven't answered about luke Shaw. He's not as good as trippier according to you, but would he command a higher fee and wage?

Remember you said we couldn't mention trippiers age earlier...
 
His best days are behind him and it’s obvious he’s only there for a last big payday and to be near his family but he is still a decent player.

Not a signing I would make but he’s better than whoever they have playing at right back just now.

95% of that squad know that they will be replaced and out the door at the earliest possible opportunity. And the manager won't be too far behind.

You will definitely get a few players, some of whom the Mags will need to persist with until at least the summer, who realise this and will mail it in thinking sod that.

I'm sure some will say "it's the same at any club" and "players will always want to do their best to prove to themselves blah blah blah", but that's not comparing like-with-like.

I agree it's a genuine worry. Hayden did an interview where he commented about how it's not like football manager you can't just get rid of people you don't want anymore and I sat back and thought it kind of already indicating the damage it's starting to do.

It's going to be hard to keep those involved you want.

Not unexpected that. Mags have always clung to the belief that a player can only be decent if he costs an extravagant fee.

We've got a young player with potential and a point to prove, they've got a player in his 30's looking for the biggest possible payday to supplement his lifestyle.

Who's more likely to get a player that 'tries'.

Isn't that all they ever wanted?

Mate, footballers these days easily go into their mid to late thirties at the top level. I guess they need to have been lucky injury wise, but they are super fit, compared to say the 90’s or early 2000.
