To be fair, no one was calling him a fullback either. When we signed Defoe, nobody was saying “JD is over the hill!”

If you see a 32 year old right back on a 4 year contract with a near £200k a week as a good signing then yeah cracking.Trippier is a good signing for the mags.
He hasn’t kicked a ball for them yetTrippier is a good signing for the mags.
We didn’t give JD a four year contract at nearly £200k a week. When we signed Defoe, nobody was saying “JD is over the hill!”
Of course they do. If we had signed an English striker from a league winning team (top league) playing in Europe, do you not think we would need to pay more than that in this current market? But he was a match winning position. Strikers earn more than right backs.
Then relegated them![]()
Trippier isn't on much less than Harry kaneOf course they do. If we had signed an English striker from a league winning team (top league) playing in Europe, do you not think we would need to pay more than that in this current market?
Mate, footballers these days easily go into their mid to late thirties at the top level. I guess they need to have been lucky injury wise, but they are super fit, compared to say the 90’s or early 2000.
If you genuinely believe that a fullback that made the England squad and played in the final, won't be busting a gut to make the world cup squad thenNot unexpected that. Mags have always clung to the belief that a player can only be decent if he costs an extravagant fee.
We've got a young player with potential and a point to prove, they've got a player in his 30's looking for the biggest possible payday to supplement his lifestyle.
Who's more likely to get a player that 'tries'.
Isn't that all they ever wanted?
Big wages I agree. But they have money to burn now, so will have to pay premiums to get the players they want. If he helps keep them up (which I hope he doesn’tHe was basically free, on a third of what trippier is and was a match winning player. How many right backs earn 160k?
I'm not sure I buy that money is no object to them. Because the fans say so?Will improve them immediately, sadly. And money is no object to them so why would they care? They'll need much more to stay up though still.
With a move to Man Utd and further trophies that bolstered an already successful career. The fact he was shite for us, was because we were shite. Not him. He still acted a prick about it.Not many though.
Trippier had bad injuries earlier in his career.
He’s done the lot now. Played in the CL, won La Liga, played in a final for England.
Surely his career is only on one trajectory now. He’s secured his final payday, I doubt his motivation will be the same.
Remember when they signed Michael Owen? How did that end?
He was still getting big wages for our position at the time.We weren’t paying him 160k p/w or a transfer fee.
Same reason Mark Hughes saw the initial settling in period at Man City. There is only so much of a vision you can paint initially.I'm not sure I buy that money is no object to them. Because the fans say so?
Why could they not do better than Eddie howe then?
If you genuinely believe that he's leaving Madrid for Newcastle for any other reason than money, you're off your chebs mateIf you genuinely believe that a fullback that made the England squad and played in the final, won't be busting a gut to make the world cup squad then![]()
I meant our fans marra! Couldn’t care less what mags think!nearly everyone was. my mag mates laughing their heads off and saying he couldn't cut it in the mls
@tooliohelmet was the knacker! To be fair, no one was calling him a fullback either.
The first manager Abu Dhabi group appointed was Roberto mancini. Mark Hughes had also achieved far more as a manager than Eddie howe has.Same reason Mark Hughes saw the initial settling in period at Man City. There is only so much of a vision you can paint initially.
