Trippier is a good signing for the mags.
If you see a 32 year old right back on a 4 year contract with a near £200k a week as a good signing then yeah cracking.

In comparison Everton have just signed a young right back from Rangers who is highly rated across Europe for less than half the mags will pay for Trippier.

He hasn’t kicked a ball for them yet

He’s not playing for Spurs or Atletico now, he’s playing for Eddie Howe and a team of crap

Canny last pay day for him at least he doesn’t have to worry about playing for again England now

But he was a match winning position. Strikers earn more than right backs.

Then relegated them
Of course they do. If we had signed an English striker from a league winning team (top league) playing in Europe, do you not think we would need to pay more than that in this current market?

Trippier isn't on much less than Harry kane  you're paying him more than man city pay Dias.

Mate, footballers these days easily go into their mid to late thirties at the top level. I guess they need to have been lucky injury wise, but they are super fit, compared to say the 90’s or early 2000.

Not many though.

Trippier had bad injuries earlier in his career.

He’s done the lot now. Played in the CL, won La Liga, played in a final for England.

Surely his career is only on one trajectory now. He’s secured his final payday, I doubt his motivation will be the same.

Remember when they signed Michael Owen? How did that end?

Not unexpected that. Mags have always clung to the belief that a player can only be decent if he costs an extravagant fee.

We've got a young player with potential and a point to prove, they've got a player in his 30's looking for the biggest possible payday to supplement his lifestyle.

Who's more likely to get a player that 'tries'.

Isn't that all they ever wanted?
If you genuinely believe that a fullback that made the England squad and played in the final, won't be busting a gut to make the world cup squad then 🤷🏻

He was basically free, on a third of what trippier is and was a match winning player. How many right backs earn 160k?
Big wages I agree. But they have money to burn now, so will have to pay premiums to get the players they want. If he helps keep them up (which I hope he doesn’t 😃) it’s a good signing.

Will improve them immediately, sadly. And money is no object to them so why would they care? They'll need much more to stay up though still.
I'm not sure I buy that money is no object to them. Because the fans say so?

Why could they not do better than Eddie howe then?

With a move to Man Utd and further trophies that bolstered an already successful career. The fact he was shite for us, was because we were shite. Not him. He still acted a prick about it.

Edit - if you don't think he will be trying to stamp a claim for the world cup squad you are mistaken.

He's obviously a good player and will improve them (unfortunately).
Still hope he scores the own goal to relegate them, then is their jack Rodwell in the championship, but it's a stretch to make out signing an England International, from one of Europe's top teams for £12 million is a bad signing.

Same reason Mark Hughes saw the initial settling in period at Man City. There is only so much of a vision you can paint initially.
