Learning the guitar

Not easy is it? Just startedlearning at 43 and struggling a bit with it, my decrepit old fingers aren’t helping but gonna keep plugging away each day till I can make some kind of tune out of the bastard, if the wife doesn’t kill me first.

Any tips for beginners?
I bought a guitar in lock down then realised i had the start of white finger, then got told i had the start of arthritis and carpal tunnel so thats the end of my rock career...😃

Had a hectic week so not picked it up all week, but had an hour tonight and can almost do the intro to outside by staind.

my fingers are proper ***** tho I doubt I’ll ever be able to play because of them, the joints are a mess!

I could be interested if one is better than the boys oneI’m playing.
I've got a Yamaha F310 you can have mate. Free.

That would be class

That would be class mate! I’d rather give you something for it if that’s ok? No bumming.
I don't want nowt mate, honestly.
It's not being used (I've also got an F730), so if you want it, it's yours.
Its got a small bit of damage near the strap button, but nothing to worry about.
It's got no strings on at the minute, but I've got a new set so will put them on. It's in a yamaha gig bag as well.

Where do you live mate?

Gan all right wing and you could still be the next clapton marra..
I think that beginners need to remember that everyone was once a beginner. Making your hand make these strange shapes isn't natural but some do it quicker than others.

My mountain to climb was learning how to play "Paradise City" and that chord progression covers a lot. I distinctly remember the day I could go from G to C and then F. I couldn't the day before. Something just unlocked in my brain and it's the wall. There are many walls that come after that, different chords etc. But you have to have the motivation to get through those early challenges when learning the guitar, or any instrument.

They all have them

Been playing that song for 20 years and I still struggle with the end bit of the intro (ie: after the GCF)

That’s class mate, if you nominate a chosen charity I’ll make a contribution then someone gets something out of it.

I think in South Shields but wouldn’t expect you to drop off I’ll come to you if you are north east based or sort collection if not.

Haha...I guessed that.

Please don't feel you have to give something (to charity) for it, someone is getting something out of it. Maybe if you upgrade in the future, you could pass it on to someone else.

I live in Consett, but work at the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle if that is any easier. I'm in work from 7.30 till 3.00 Monday till Friday.
Im a bit tied up today, but should get the strings on tomorrow, so you could collect anytime from Tuesday really.
Do you have a work pattern to work around?

We do loads of projects in consett and also doa fair bit at Marie curie newcastle (did the dining room refurb a few years back), whatever is easiest for you and I’ll come to you (or one of the engineers will get it for me).

I work long hours but will make it to you while out and about. No rush, let me know when it’s sorted and we will sort something out.

thanks again!

I was there when the refurb was done, 2014 that was. I'm head chef there....the refurb and extension has made a massive difference to the hospice, especially for visiting relatives/friends etc.

I will let you know once it's sorted and we can sort something from there. I can put it in the car Tuesday morning, and just leave it in there, so it's always available to collect.

Imagine joe public gets that guitar and just “gets it” like Mozart with the piano and writes a multi platinum album and becomes the SMB Ed Sheeran.

what a story
