Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing

Part of God’s Country tonight.
The Severn and Teme some wonderful Countryside but never underestimate both Rivers. Probably the most dangerous you can fish.
If it rains heavily in Wales that River can rise some 15 to 20 feet very quickly.
Watched it literally rise and quickly moving gear up the bank.

Worcestershire and Herefordshire fishing in the hop fields absolutely stunning and you don’t see anyone.
The barbel fight like no other in that River, known as the Teme Tigers. Living in those conditions make them so much stronger than the Thames Barbel.
Fight like no other and bites will often pull the rod off the rod rest.

Great for Kurtan to make an appearance tonight.

Wish this was on for an hour. Brought back many happy memories tonight’s episode. Malvern Hills in the background.

Honestly less than a mile from the house and never fished for them.
Best baits definitely lures, the jelly type.
You are not meant to put them back if you catch them. Keep meaning to have a go but never get round to it.

I'm not sure, but isn't it only Zander under a certain size which cannot be put back? I might be wrong. Regardless, I couldn't kill them myself. I'd have to accidently drop them back in the water during the unhooking process.

I’m like you.
Small pond down here. Last season caught 5 pike out of it.
Farmer said I should have knocked them on the head. Instead walked up the main river and put them in there.
Only problem when flooded the river joins the pond - probably back home now :)
Pond only 3 feet deep, some cracking Rudd.
Cormorants a problem.

i was meant to be in gosforth that night for the delayed end of season football club farewell but I was away seeing my lass in Scotland, and one of the other dads sent me a picture of him with Paul and Bob… I’d just been listening to Bobs audiobook where he said he was too polite to say no to selfies and things, and that he wishes he was more like Van Morrison who just told people to piss off.. even knowing that, I’d have still asked them for a photo..

It’s one of the best audio biographies I’ve listened to.. his cheeky little laughs at himself… the bit where the lad just keep telling the copper to piss off when the copper is trying to get him to confirm his name and address and Bob had told him to not answer any questions…. And then when he got held up at knifepoint… too many great parts

I love this series, caught the Christmas episode by accident and hooked. Two canny blokes just fishing.

You just cannot help but smile watching each episode.

Gang-banger, I assume?

Just finished season 4. Still every bit the warm hug of a show. Plenty music from Elbow too, which is never a bad thing.
Hoping for at least an Xmas Special, even if they don't do another season.

Yeah with light lines and big fish you need the stretch in the line and keep your rod tip up to absorb any runs from a fish. In fly fishing you can have very light tippet material to improve presentation of your fly so you need a bit of care until the fish tires a bit then you can start to recover your line.

With sea fishing it’s often not an issue as in the north east when rock fishing, you might be using 30lb line and you can just drag them in.

Sea fishing also uses a multiplier reel to recover line quickly in fly fishing some people retrieve by hand not reel and just let the line lie at their feet.
