Given the Saudi PIF aren't running the club it does beg the question as to how generous they're going to be with the cash. Yes, their owners ate minted but this doesn't really strike me as the type of arrangement that chelsea, man city or psg have with wealthy individuals at the helm who have invested in a personal hobby. Wouldn't surprise me if the PIF want to see a + return like any shareholder.

Everything in there points to it, but I believe he was posting when we played Cheltenham. It shows unfortunately that people are being taken in by the what about shite. It'll change when the press turn.
Aye I’ve edited it. Remembered his name. It’s a lazy thinking at best. And doesn’t stand up to any kind of scrutiny.

As a neutral the backlash about human rights just seems a bit off and hypocritical to me. People seem to forget that the Saudi PIF have been pumping cash into Man U and have sizeable stakes in Facebook and Uber.

Do I think half of London, developments in other cities, and chunks of our strategic infrastructure should be owned by the Saudis and other murderous regimes? No. But it is and as long as our country is fine with that, and people are happy to sell weapons to the Saudis etc to use in Yemen etc then I see no justification for making an exception of Newcastle United.

I gather there is a BAE Systems weapons factory just off the A1M at Washington. I assume those on here complaining about the Newcastle takeover are up there protesting against BAE making weapons for the Saudis and other similar countries?
Another one out the sewer.

It’s a Saturday night man and you’re spending your time on here trying to justify it.

Whatever you say Damien mate

A neutral? Yet you seem to have done a bit of research. You're entitled to your opinion, but let's be honest, this has absolutely no effect on you does it?

Not research, just a lot of years reading the Financial Times and similar so I know about these things.

It doesn’t affect me at all unless Newcastle want to pay Cheltenham £20m for one of our youth prospects!

I completely agree it is sportswashing and the footage of fans waving Saudi flags was unpleasant. As much as I hate the idea of the Saudi state being involved in football ownership, my point is that I see no justification for singling out Newcastle ahead of all the other investment from and trade with the Saudis.

The fact England will be playing a world cup in stadia built by bonded labour slaves, hundreds (probably thousands by now) of who died on construction sites is equally abhorrent.

Thousands of people crammed in the stands with no masks... Green Zone.

A couple of people wander onto a huge field...RED ALERT!!!!!!!!!
Pennies need to drop, i. e. You can use the coronis for any situation that suits. At this point I really hope the Sky presenters, Neville? Call it out.

I think it’s because they actively campaigned for it for well over a year mate. Raised a petition with 100,000 signatures. Got their Labour MPs to support it. Picketed the PL HQ. Protested outside the Houses of Parliament, that kind of thing. There’s quite a list if you like reading.
Ive been past companies premises that deal with the country.haven’t seen the staff wearing tea towels on their heads, nor have I seen Saudi flags outside.
Im with you 100% on the World Cup mind.

If you've read up on it then you'll know that the companies you've mentioned have very minimal investment from them compared to this. As someone mentioned the mags are now the face of the Saudis in the UK, Not Starbucks.

Nobody is expecting you to stop following your team.
Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable but everyone has different morals.
It's the hypocrisy.
Ashley is made out to be the devil, yet the Saudis are great.
The North east is a traditionally working class area and you (not all) have turned into Harry Enfield torys, with all your 'we are considerably richer than you' shite.
Most older fans have been bleating on how much money has ruined modern football.
Bang, there go the morals, stick a teatowel on your head and sell your souls.
Do you not feel a bit dirty seeing your fans waving a Saudi flag?
Does he fuck. None of them do. It was all bollocks
Nowt but closet right wingers including journalists and politicians.

Saudis and tories man can you sink any lower

I watched frozen with my youngest granddaughter this morning. Does that make me a bad person 😳🙁 ( even though the Saudis dont have shares in Disney any more)

Yes the flags and tea towels was bad.

But I imagine if we stopped selling weapons and jobs were lost in Washington and Barrow and wherever then MPs would be down complaining about that.

Obviously football is not the same as people’s jobs but as a country we can either be fine taking Saudi money or not - saying it is ok for some but not others doesn’t wash with me.

But yeh, those waving flags etc might as well be out supporting the Taliban and ISIS.

I do recall BAE pulled sponsorship of t the Great Exhibition of the North after a campaign against them being involved, so I guess you do have a precedent for taking these issues on up there in fairness.
