Selectors not got any loyalties in the slightest!
They have to pick a certain number in a squad and have to pick that certain number out of a limited talented pot.
It is that simple, the squad more or less picks itself.
They is not one player who is not in the squad who is a surprise they have not been picked.
They is only really Bess who I would not have picked
Dom Bess in Australia.![]()

Absolutely laughable. We deserve everything we're going to get
I'm not really banging the drum for who should go instead because the cupboard is beyond bare (Leach should be the main spinner mind) but picking Bess is a joke. His record away from Ciderabad is vilehe’s had a better career than Matt Parkinson
that everyone wants on the tour

And that is the truth of the matter, depressing as it is
he bowled really well in South Africa
and he’s been one of the best spinners in county game this year for Yorkshire, so that’s not true
I think when everyone fit our first XI is as good as most teams
people are far too critical
we will lose in Australia as we always do as it’s very very hard. Doesn’t make the state of English cricket terrible
Australia haven’t won in England for over 20 years and that’s with much more helpful conditions
But it's not our first XI and there aren't obvious candidates to fill the shoes of Stokes and Archer.
Others are good, but these two can offer something different.
The batting can't be relied upon and couple that with the mental degradation the Aussies will dish out, this side isn't a patch on the 2010/11 team
There’s the mental health issues as well. Any word on his mindset ?of course it’s not that is probably our best ever england side
not fair to compare them
if stokes goes we have half a chance
i wouldn’t say he is 100% out yet. Injury healing. If he has a few nets we know what he is like
his decision though. Fingers crossed
He saw Dom Bess in the squad and had a breakdown. Currently in a secure unitThere’s the mental health issues as well. Any word on his mindset ?
I think it’s reasonable to be honest. Assess it criticallyGot to say mind hope the players are a bit more positive than you lot on here!
Talk about doom and gloom![]()

I’d likely go Starc as well, their records in Oz suggest most shouldIf you picked a combined XI to play in Australian conditions (assuming Stokes doesn't go)...
Warner
*Batter
Labuschagne
Root
Smith
*Batter
*Keeper
Cummings
Hazlewood
Lyon
Anderson
It's 6 of theirs, 2 of ours and the other three spots are up for grabs. You'd probably have Buttler over Paine (but there's not much between their test records) and the other two batting spots could be filled by subpar players from either side. Some convicts would have Starc over Jimmy in their conditions as well.
You never know with test cricket, but I fear the worst.
I put Jimmy in 'cos it's Jimmy. Plus there's a day nighter and their wickets aren't the lightening quicks they used to be, but I agree it's a toss up. Just re-enforces the point though, they're miles ahead of us man for man in their conditions.I’d likely go Starc as well, their records in Oz suggest most should
I think it’s reasonable to be honest. Assess it critically
a fragile top 3, 2 of whom are recent additions
missing stokes at 5, Pope and Lawrence yet to convince
Buttler and Bairstow both looking fragile with the gloves
No allrounder of note, we will play the keeper at 6 and Woakes at 7 probably
Right arm fast medium bar Wood. Broad potentially unfit
spinners who are untrusted
Warner, Smith and Labuschange who are exceptional at home
Genuine pace and class with Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood
An off spinner with 400 test wickets
I’d feel a bit better if Archer, Stone and Stokes had travelled and if Pope had kicked on last summer
There’s the mental health issues as well. Any word on his mindset ?
