Ashes squad

Sad to say, I think we're going to get slaughtered.

We're going to have to score 2500+ runs to be competitive and I don't see where they're coming from. Add to that a pretty one paced (Woody excepted) attack and I just don't see where we challenge them for full sessions, nevermind full days.

Cant see anything other than a Whitewash. Quick bowling options or lack of is dreadful, not sure why Carse didn't get a gig

Lot easier to say this and that player should not be nowhere near the squad!

Harder to say who are better alternatives.

Someone like Overton has clearly improved this season and should be in the squad imo.

I was on board with Overton but then I thought he was so so poor at the Oval, I just dont see him taking wickets, he isn't quicker and he wasn't as accurate as he needed to be

I think pace bowling is the one area you can take a risk, Carse or Mahmood should have gone instead for me
Bess
Lawrence
Overton

Should be absolutely nowhere that squad

nowhere near is a stupid meaningless statement, of ourse they should be near it, anyone who watches county cricket consistently would tell you that
this idea that we have loads and loads of better cricketers than them isn't true

there are a few 50/50 debatable calls, thats it

It’s not a meaningless statement. They can do what they want at county level, they aren’t good enough at international level though.

What’s Overton going to bring in Australian conditions? Surely Mahmood would have been the better option?

The Aussies will target Bess if he plays and we‘be seen before he’s very much a confidence player. Surely Parkinson would have been a better pick?

Lawrence is just not good enough, might as well of took Vince.

I'd pick Mahmood buts its very debatable and just personal opinon

There is nowhere you can someone like Overton should be "nowhere near the squad" yet Mahmood is good enough. What is that based on

Again you've gone for personal peferences, thats mine, but its 50/50 at best

the idea that your picks should 100% definitely be int he squad but the others should be "nowhere near" is utter nosense like mate and you know it

And this is coming from soneone who would have picked all 3 of them.

there is no need for the hyperbole

Mahmood and Parkinson will have just freshened the squad up for me. The Aussies know exactly what to expect from
Overton and Bess and they will target the pair of them.

That’s why I would have had them nowhere near the squad, especially for this tour.

Bess and Overton can bat a bit which is why they are selected. Honestly think Parkinson’s route into this side will be ahead of Leach not Bess

Agree with that - should have took Parkinson & Vince - Bess is hopeless and Lawrence is just too leg side.

Having digested I think I’d have done the following

Parkinson for Bess
Livingstone for Lawrence
Carse and Mahmood for Overton

wouldn’t shock me if we have an absolute disaster and it heralds the end of some careers, voluntarily or otherwise. Potentially Broad, Buttler, Malan, Bairstow and Burns in red ball cricket. Think Jimmy probably plays next summer but wouldn’t be a shock if some of those were at an end or focused on the white ball stuff

depressing eh!

That makes no sense though in the context of your quote

if you wanna say you prefer them fine

but to suggest some are absolutely nowhere near good enough, yet the others are good enough just isn't true

they are all very very marginal calls and you know that

I give my reasons for not wanting them anywhere near the squad. If you want to go round in circles then crack on

Bess, much use as a chocolate teapot.
Lawrence, much use as a glass hammer.
Crawley, much use as a nuns vagina.

Going to get our arse handed to us. Selectors have strange loyalties to these bang average county cricketers.

I worry about Hameed. Crouched stance and low hands over there, I think he's really going to struggle.

Can't understand why Livingstone and Mahmood aren't in the squad, what more do they have to do? Parkinson less so as I'm not sure he'd play much, but if we're taking Bess in his place then that's just silly.

Agree fully

Selectors not got any loyalties in the slightest!

They have to pick a certain number in a squad and have to pick that certain number out of a limited talented pot.

It is that simple, the squad more or less picks itself.

They is not one player who is not in the squad who is a surprise they have not been picked.

They is only really Bess who I would not have picked
